Job Description:
Are you interested in a career within healthcare science with a high degree of autonomy and responsibility? The Golden Jubilee University National Hospital (GJUNH) offers an exciting opportunity to train and become a registered Clinical Perfusion Scientist, working within the cardiac surgical field.
The West of Scotland Clinical Perfusion service supports GJUNH and the Royal Hospital for Children (RHC), Glasgow. Annually, there are around 1400 adult cases, including cardiac transplantation and complex adult congenital surgeries, at GJNH. The RHC undertakes approximately 250 neonatal and paediatric cardiac surgeries each year.
The service includes neonatal, paediatric, and adult ECMO services across both sites, as well as a busy short-term VAD service at GJNH. Clinical Perfusionists manage all technical aspects of LTLVAD patients, including scrubbing and participating in implant procedures, with follow-up reviews at outpatient clinics.
The successful candidate must hold a minimum 2:1 BSc (Hons) in a relevant life or biological sciences field from the University of Bristol.
You will undertake a two-year training program aligned with the Society of Clinical Perfusion Scientists of Great Britain and Ireland, culminating in an MSc in Clinical Perfusion Science. During this period, you will maintain a professional clinical portfolio with onsite support and training at GJUNH and RHC. You will also need to pass the Society’s practical and Viva Voce examinations to attain accreditation for autonomous practice.
During training, you will follow the AFC annex 21 salary scheme.
For more information, please contact Mr. Patrick Campbell, Clinical Perfusion & SCP Manager, via email at [emailprotected].
NHS Golden Jubilee is open to flexible working options. Applications are encouraged early, as the vacancy may close early due to high demand.
