Moore Concrete’s Apprenticeship Programme is an opportunity that we pride ourselves on offering to individuals studying all levels of apprenticeships, providing them with the platform to upskill, develop their knowledge, and gain relevant work experience alongside their studies.
We are currently recruiting an Engineering Apprentice to join our maintenance team. The purpose of this role is to allow individuals to upskill and develop throughout the business, which will coincide with their studies – benefitting them academically as well. We will work alongside each individual to help cater their needs to grow.
Hours of Work:
Hours will be variable between 32 – 48 hours per week as needed. Standard hours of work will be Monday – Friday 06:00 am – 15:00 pm or 08:00 am to 17:00 pm; however, flexibility to work overtime and/or Saturdays as necessary is essential. Please make HR aware of what day(s) you will require for day release to college/university.
Outline Responsibilities:
Depending on the area within the business, apprentices will be expected to:
1. Bring a high-quality and efficient approach to all processes involved.
2. Use skills learnt within further education to bring across different approaches and outlooks on processes to work more efficiently – working alongside management to bring these points across.
3. Learn and perform basic welding techniques such as MIG, TIG, and arc welding.
4. Weld steel plates according to specifications and engineering drawings.
5. Cut, shape, and prepare steel plates using hand tools and machinery.
6. Ensure surfaces are clean and properly prepared for welding.
7. Follow all workplace safety procedures, including PPE use and fire hazard prevention.
8. Understand and apply welding safety protocols to prevent injuries and defects.
9. Interpret engineering blueprints and welding symbols to execute accurate welds.
10. Inspect welds for defects and ensure they meet industry standards.
11. Learn how to use measuring tools for quality assurance.
12. Keep welding tools, equipment, and workspaces clean and well-maintained.
13. Assist in routine maintenance.
14. Learn from supervisors and participate in on-the-job training.
15. Any other duties as required by the Maintenance Manager.
Minimum Requirements:
1. Willingness to learn and upskill.
2. Studying or applying to study an Engineering, Welding, or similar apprenticeship.
3. Understanding of Health & Safety at work.
4. Flexibility in working hours and strong adaptability skills.
5. Good communication and teamwork experience.
6. Willing to clean and maintain the working area.
7. An understanding of both written and spoken English.
8. Previous work experience in a working environment.
9. The ability to read technical/construction drawings.
10. Experience with hand/air and power tools.
11. CSR certification.
