Your new role:
We are looking for Civil Engineering Technicians (x2) to join the Highways & Coastal – Project Delivery team on a full-time and permanent basis. This contract is offered on a hybrid basis which is a combination of attending office, working from home and regular site visits (as and when required). This post is within the Project Delivery Team (Highways & Coastal) responsible for Highway Design, Traffic Management/Regulations, Road Safety, Structures, Flood Risk and Coastal Protection.
As a civil engineering technician, you will provide a full range of technical support functions that are required across teams within the Infrastructure & Environment directorate. You will be responsible for supporting the initiation, planning and implementation of highway, traffic, flood risk, coastal protection and road safety projects to our agreed high standards and within budget. You will be required to use AutoCAD and/or equivalent software for the production of drawings as required.
This role will report to Senior Engineers and will be required to support the design, delivery and monitoring of highway and coastal projects delivered in accordance with the Council’s strategies and policies, to time and budget.
What you'll need to succeed:
To be successful in this role, the ability to use a variety of IT packages to undertake surveys, designs and other technical assessments including AutoCAD, Civils 3D/MX or similar and InfoDrainage is essential. Previous experience of assisting assistant engineers, engineers and senior engineers with the management of resources such as time, financial, contract and project management is essential. Good written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to build and maintain effective internal and external working relationships is crucial for this role.
It is essential that you can provide timely and accurate advice to senior leaders/members/local councillors and the general public on all highway, flooding and coastal related matters.
Your application will not be considered if you do not have one of the following:
* ONC/BTEC+ in civil engineering / highways / or related discipline.
* Student or Graduate Engineer Membership of (or working towards) a professional body and 2+ years’ experience.
* Equivalent knowledge and experience of working within at least one relevant field (Highways Design/Maintenance, Traffic Management, Road Safety or Parking)
