What's involved with this role: Interim Traffic Engineer x2 Reference no: Merton 5258210 Pay Rate: £28.15 per hour PAYE 35 Monday – Friday, normal working hours This opening assignment is for 8 months City: MORDEN, LONDON Hybrid working - must be able to attend the office x3 days per week. Undertake allocated projects, tasks and functions appropriate to Traffic, Parking, Transport and Highway Services from start (feasibility, design, CAD drawing, reports) to completion (raise orders, contractor supervision and payment of invoices) to meet the targets and quality standards required by legislations, and the Council. Key responsibilities: Undertake informal and statutory consultations including preparation of schedules. Prepare Cabinet Member report and seek approval including publications and Call-In Carry out technical tasks relating to the activities of the Future Merton team including updating computerised registers, record keeping, filing, relaying of messages and distribution of documents. Contribute to the development, implementation and monitoring of service policies, procedures and practices. Provide straightforward technical information as required to other officers of the Department, other Departments, external organisations, Councillors and members of the public. Offer detailed advice to the public on the provision of services; carry out technical duties and responding to public complaints and emergencies Provide input into Departmental and Corporate initiatives and projects where traffic and highways expertise and professional knowledge is required. Represent the Council at meetings with other authorities and organisations. Qualifications: A bachelor's degree in civil engineering Knowledge: A good knowledge of Highway, Traffic and parking design criteria, process and requirements including the relevant legislations. Experience: Administrative experience with a customer-oriented attitude and the ability to communicate complex and technical information in an understandable way. Experience in the use of GIS-based computer software would be advantageous. Skills & Abilities: Good organisational and methodical skills and ability to meet deadlines, and work well under pressure in a busy and demanding environment. Excellent written and verbal communication skills ensuring all associated enquiries are dealt with promptly and effectively. Good IT skills and the ability to use software packages and databases. The ability to manage workload including some budget management and financial monitoring.
