We are one of the largest acute and community providers in the West Midlands having more than 850 beds on the New Cross Hospital site. The Trust also has 56 rehabilitation beds at West Park Hospital and 54 beds at Cannock Chase Hospital.
We are the largest employer in Wolverhampton; the Trust employs close to 10,000 staff covering more than 350 different roles.
You will join a general surgical department which includes Upper-GI, Colorectal, Breast, and Vascular Services. The Upper GI Surgical Team has four Consultants.
Main duties of the job
We are looking to appoint a GI Consultant to join the team who has an interest in Benign UGI and HPB Surgery and is keen to lead on developing the service for the future.
The successful applicant will provide UGI and general surgical services in a theatre, outpatient, and ward setting.
Minimally invasive surgery is well established within the surgical service, including robotic-assisted colorectal surgery. There is an opportunity to develop this within the UGI field subject to the necessary training.
There are separate specialty rotas for seven-day services, and it is expected that the successful candidate will contribute to both the general surgery emergency rota (1 in 12) and the UGI weekend rota.
The Trust has two sites for outpatient and elective surgical activity at New Cross Hospital and Cannock Chase Hospital. As part of the team, you will be expected to participate in delivering services on both sites.

The successful applicant should possess fellowship of the Royal College of Surgeons and should be included on the Specialist Register or within 6 months of CCT or CESR at the time of interview.
Job responsibilities
Applicants must be able to demonstrate a high level of competence across all aspects of acute and elective upper GI surgery. However, experience and/or interest in both the non-operative and operative management of oesophagogastric surgery is essential.
