An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the Centre for Medical Education, providing professional technical support within our busy and dynamic Clinical Skills and Simulation team. This is an essential role in providing support for the Clinical Skills and Simulation Centre and Centre for Medical Education, working closely with staff, students and external stakeholders to deliver a high-quality teaching experience for primarily undergraduate but also postgraduate students.
The Clinical Skills and Simulation Team’s focus is to teach undergraduate medical students’ practical skills such as taking blood, giving injections and looking after sick patients. Teaching is undertaken in the Clinical Skills and Simulation Centre, a highly regarded and well-equipped facility where students can develop their practical skills and gain valuable experience of real medical situations in a simulated and safe environment.
The successful candidate will provide technical support to staff and students across the MBBCh programme. You will need to demonstrate the ability to meet deadlines, prioritise workload, have good attention to detail, good IT skills and good communication and interpersonal skills.
The post is based at the Heath Park site in Cardiff.

The expected hours of work will be 08:30 – 16:00, Monday-Friday.

Salary: £22,728 - £23,114 per annum (Grade 2). Appointments to roles at Cardiff University are usually made at bottom of scale unless in exceptional circumstances.

Job Purpose
To provide technical support to the Directorate/School.
Duties And Responsibilities
Key Duties
* Ensure the Clinical Skills and Simulation Centre is maintained through cleaning and undertaking routine care of all teaching and associated facilities, machinery and equipment.
* Assist in stock control, ensuring adequate security and levels of stock are maintained and liaise and support the team in the generation of orders.
* Prepare all materials and equipment as necessary for use in teaching and assessments and ensure area of responsibility is kept clean and tidy in accordance with the Clinical Skills and Simulation Centre’s standard operating procedures.
* Assist with the assembling of equipment, as well as checking on satisfactory operation of the equipment escalating appropriately.
* Deal with simple and routine enquiries from internal and external customers in a professional manner, following established procedures and referring complex enquiries to relevant staff members.
* Assist in the maintenance of routine records, updating database and analysing routine data/information as required.
* Work on own initiative using creativity to complete set tasks ensuring standard guidelines and procedures are adhered to, recognising when to refer a problem to others.
* Participate actively within the work team, setting an example and showing a flexible approach to delivering team results.
* Engage in continuous professional development (CPD).
* Provide manual assistance in moving equipment from one location to another.
General Duties

Essential Criteria
Qualifications and Education
* Basic Numeracy and Literacy (for example NVQ 1/GCSE level D-G).
Knowledge, Skills And Experience
* Experience of using and maintaining appropriate machinery and equipment.
* Experience of working in a technical support environment.
* Experience of using IT packages such as Microsoft Office packages.
Customer Service, Communication and Team Working
* Ability to deal with customers and other employees in a professional manner.
* Evidence of working well as an effective team member, providing advice and guidance to other team members where necessary.
* Ability to deal promptly, effectively and courteously with requests for information or services.
Planning, Analysis and Problem Solving
* Ability to follow instructions and work independently within set procedures/practices.
* Ability to plan and organise your own workload within agreed timelines as set by your Line Manager.
Other
* A willingness to undertake further training and development.
Desirable Criteria
* NVQ 2 or GCSE’s at A – C, or equivalent.
* Experience of working in a Higher Education environment.
* Fluency in Welsh, written and oral.
