SENDirect is excited to offer an opportunity for a motivated and compassionate Behaviour Mentor to join the Inclusion Team at a special school in Southend. This role involves providing crucial support to students with social, emotional, and mental health (SEMH) needs, helping them overcome barriers to success. You will work closely with students on a one-to-one basis, in small groups, and alongside classroom staff to develop strategies that encourage positive behaviour and emotional well-being.
In this role, you will be part of a supportive team that assesses and monitors students’ progress, implements targeted interventions, and collaborates with parents, carers, and external professionals. Key Responsibilities:
* Oversee the provision for pupils with Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) needs across the school.
* Work closely with the Inclusion Team to implement and assess provisions for individual students, monitoring progress regularly.
* Develop and deliver targeted interventions to support students’ specific needs.
* Provide one-to-one and group support, working alongside classroom staff to address behavioural challenges.
* Respond to behaviour-related incidents and manage de-escalation strategies effectively.
* Collaborate with parents, carers, and external agencies to ensure comprehensive support for students.
* Manage and oversee the afternoon Nurture Support Base, ensuring a calm and supportive environment for students.
Qualifications and Experience:
* Previous experience working with children or young people with Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) needs.
* Strong understanding of behaviour management strategies and the ability to apply them effectively.
* Excellent communication skills, with the ability to build positive relationships with students, staff, and parents.
* Ability to assess students' needs and develop tailored interventions.
* Experience in de-escalating challenging behaviour and managing behaviour-related incidents.
* A commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children.
* Patience, resilience, and a passion for supporting young people in overcoming barriers to success.

The Behaviour Mentor will work both in the classroom and directly with students on a one-to-one basis, as well as in small or large group settings.

* Build relationships with external agencies and providers to coordinate additional support when necessary.
* Manage and oversee the afternoon Nurture Support Base.
