Review and monitor regional sites compliance with certification, nutrition education, and breastfeeding components of State and Federal WIC regulations as part of the WIC Management Review Team. Functions as the State Breastfeeding Coordinator with the following duties:
* Identifies breastfeeding promotion and support services needed in the State in order to develop program objectives and goals.
* Develops State policies, procedures, and guidelines for breastfeeding promotion and support activities that coordinates efforts according to the State Plan.
* Identifies methods and strategies that local agencies will use to promote and support breastfeeding.
* Ensures State and Local agency staff receive competency-based training on breastfeeding promotion and support.
* Keeps current on breastfeeding and nutrition information and educate central office and local agency staff.
* Monitors breastfeeding initiation and duration rates and submits a report of data monthly.
* Provides input on breastfeeding promotion and support expenditures.
* Identifies or develops appropriate breastfeeding education resources and materials.
* Uses evaluation results to improve policies, services, and performance.
Serves as the subject matter expert for the SCWIC MIS system, TeleWIC and Breastfeeding Module. Provides technical assistance and consultation on breastfeeding promotion and support to local agency staff.
Serves on the Newborn Care Coordination subcommittee of the SC Birth Outcomes Initiative and the SC Breastfeeding Coalition. Leads the State Breastfeeding Coordinators Meetings and plans awareness for Breastfeeding Month. Communicates with internal and external audiences. Other duties as assigned.
Minimum and Additional Requirements
Some positions require registration or eligibility for registration by the American Dietetic Association. A bachelor’s degree in nutrition, dietetics or community nutrition and experience in a clinical, public health or institutional setting; or a bachelor’s degree in any field, eligibility for registration by the American Dietetic Association and experience in a clinical, public health or institutional setting.
Institutions of Higher Learning must be recognized by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation.
Holds a bachelor’s or higher degree from an accredited college or university in Public Health Nutrition, Human Nutrition, Food and Nutrition or any health or nutrition related field. Registered Dietitian Nutritionist (RDN) with the Commission of Dietetic Registration of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics and obtain a license from the South Carolina Panel for Dietetics or Non-Registered Dietitian Nutritionist with an IBCLC. If applicant is an RD, must obtain at least a minimum of CLC, CBS, or CLS within 6 months. Applicants indicating college credit or degree(s) on the application may upload an unofficial copy of the transcript as an attachment to the application. Please note that the agency will require an official, certified copy of the transcript or diploma prior to hiring.
Preferred Qualifications
Strongly prefer current certification in International Board-Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC,) or other State approved specialized training, such as Certified Lactation Counselor (CLC), Certified Breastfeeding Specialist (CBS), Certified Lactation Specialist (CLS), or any other breastfeeding certification.

DRIVING RECORD: If this position requires the applicant to possess a valid driver’s license to operate a state vehicle or personal vehicle, any applicant being considered in the final stages of selection for the position will be required to provide a certified copy of a 10-year driving record.
