An exciting opportunity has arisen to join our new ADHD in Intellectual Disability (ADHD-ID) service in Kent and Medway as a Specialty Doctor in the Psychiatry of Intellectual Disability. This is a new post which has been created by KMPT being recently commissioned to undertake reviews of ADHD medication treatments in people with ID. The post holder will be a member of a new dedicated ADHD-ID Team. The ADHD-ID team will focus on a specific patient group with ADHD diagnoses. The appointee will work with Consultant Psychiatrist colleagues to provide outpatient medication reviews of patients with ID and ADHD. We have a friendly and supportive working culture. Main duties of the job
The post holder will work within a newly formed ADHD-ID Team which will focus entirely on patients with ID and ADHD diagnoses in Kent and Medway. The ADHD-ID Team will have a Specialty Doctor (this post), a Health Care Assistant and administrator and input from two Consultant Psychiatrists in ID experienced in the treatment of ADHD.
The postholder will:
* provide psychiatric reviews (including ADHD medications) of patients with ID and ADHD
* work as part of the ADHD-ID team, being available and accessible to provide support and supervision when appropriate
* ensure effective liaison occurs between the ADHD-ID team and other primary and secondary care health services
* participate in Psychiatry of ID teaching and academic events.
* participate in clinical governance, clinical audit/research, and other working groups and committees as may be necessary.

Do you want to have access to medical education and research opportunities and a local medical school? The trust provides local and county-wide training which includes the ability to network with other psychiatrists in the Trust. Psychiatry of ID within KMPT also has an academic programme with Kent, Sussex and Surrey Deanery partners. The post-holder will have opportunities to take part in teaching of doctors in training. Medical students also are placed in the area and there are opportunities to be involved in their teaching. There are opportunities for teaching FY trainees, GP trainees and Core Trainees on the Kent, Surrey and Sussex rotation who work within the trust. The Kent and Medway Medical School started taking its first students in 2020 and this has increased opportunities to get involved with the organisation and development of local medical education. The Trust encourages research, particularly where this is relevant to the morbidity of the local population. The post holder will be encouraged to collaborate with academic departments in areas of research related to the post holder’s duties. The Trust has academic links with universities in Canterbury – University of Kent and Canterbury Christchurch University, as well as the University of Brighton.
Person specification
QUALIFICATIONS
* MBBS or equivalent medical qualification.
* Qualification or higher degree in medical education, clinical research or management.
* MRCPsych OR MRCPsych equivalent approved by the Royal College of Psychiatrists.
* Specialist knowledge and experience in old age psychiatry
* Additional clinical qualifications.
ELIGIBILITY
* Fully registered with the GMC with a licence to practise.
* In good standing with GMC with respect to warnings and conditions on practice.
* Approved under S12 OR able to achieve with 6 months of appointment
TRANSPORT
* Holds and will use valid UK driving licence OR provides evidence of proposed alternative
CLINICAL SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE & EXPERIENCE
* Excellent knowledge in specialty
* Completed minimum of three years full-time training in psychiatry.
* Clinical expertise in the assessment and management of risk.
* Good working knowledge of the interface between the MCA and MHA.
* Excellent clinical skills using bio-psycho-social perspective and wide medical knowledge
* At least 6 months experience of ID psychiatry within the last 5 years
* Wide range of specialist and sub-specialist experience relevant to post within NHS or comparable service
* Endorsement in Adult Psychiatry from Royal College of Psychiatrists
* Experience of working with Adults and skills in cognitive assessment
* Experience in working in other specialities
