ROLE PURPOSE
The post holder will be one of a group of specialist Fertility Nurses/Midwives working within the Reproductive Medicine & Gynaecology Clinic. The Nurses/Midwives will be responsible and accountable for assessing, planning and implementing high quality care to meet the individual needs of the patients.
You will develop skills in the management and care of couples undergoing assisted reproductive techniques and also be responsible for the efficient day to day running of the clinic and for supervising, healthcare assistants and multi-professional students.
Candidates must be NMC registered or working towards NMC Registration.
ROLE REQUIREMENTS
Maintain high level of confidentiality at all times.
Develop competence in ART skills to plan and coordinate treatment cycles, including endocrine investigations.
Have the knowledge about fertility drugs.
Have the knowledge to guide patients in completing HFEA consent forms and inhouse consents according to HFEA guideline and internal SOPs during nurse consultation.
Provide compassionate communication in stressful situations (e.g., miscarriage, ectopic diagnosis), including implications counselling.
Maintain accurate patient records in compliance with NMC and HFEA regulations.
Coordinate treatment cycles, plan drug prescriptions and liaise with consultants or external doctors.
Coordinate oocyte retrieval, embryo transfer and donor insemination with the team, offering support and instructions during procedures.
Scrub and circulate in operating theatre for procedures such as egg collections, embryo transfers, IUI, hysteroscopies, surgical sperm retrieval, and other gynaecological procedures.
Scan patients in theatre abdominally when undergoing embryo transfer or IUI following adequate training
Knowledge in admitting and recovering sedation cases.
Assist/chaperone doctors and senior nurses/midwife during an ultrasound scan.
Responsible for safe handling of all medication including controlled drugs in line with the Home Office license and CQC.
Manage stock levels and assist in ordering medications or supplies.
Able to perform venepuncture and able to interpret and give results to patients if necessary and cannulating patients prior to procedures.
To be able to provide cover for any sickness or emergencies within the nursing staff
Participate in weekend and out of hours rosters.
Computer literate and competent in using Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint.
Training for all of these can be provided for suitable candidate.

PERFORMANCE MANAGEMENT
To demonstrate a high level of clinical competence in all aspects of ART.
Demonstrate use of excellent communication skills to support patients and families in stressful situations both face to face and over the telephone.
To work with the nurse manager to ensure that there is an active and appropriate teaching programme to meet the needs of staff and the service and to be proactive within this programme.
Utilise and evaluate local competencies/workbooks to aid their own development.
To ensure record keeping is accurate and legible for each patient in line with NMC regulations. To assist in the production of written information to meet the changing expectations and needs of service users.
Assisting in the collation of all data resulting from procedures ensuring that timelines for HFEA data submission are met.
