Due to the upcoming recategorisation to a Category B Remand Prison, we have an exciting opportunity for a Matron to join our Primary Care team at HMP Brixton.
HMP Brixton will be a Category B male prison from April 2025 housing men on remand. Our patients' needs will vary greatly but there will be a focus on mental health, substance misuse, and early days in custody.
Hours: Monday to Friday 0800 – 1600.
This position is full time and you’ll receive an annual salary up to £68,676 per annum - depending on experience.

Candidates are required to have a legal right to work in the UK and due to the nature of the role, offers of employment will be subject to additional vetting and security checks.
As a Matron, your responsibilities will vary. You will:
1. Lead the Inpatients Unit and Clinical Leads, providing clinical oversight.
2. Deputise on behalf of the Deputy/Head of Healthcare when required.
3. Work closely with partners to maintain a robust, high-quality clinical service for patients.
4. Ensure that your clinical practice is consistent with autonomous practice within the role.
5. Model a culture of compassion, care, courage, commitment, communication, and competence.
6. Coach, line manage, and develop clinician staff; support and contribute in undertaking audits and governance and contribute to developing and reviewing clinical/non-clinical Local Operating Protocols for the site.
7. Chair and facilitate specific healthcare meetings with the team and different partners, provide clinical supervision (training available), and carry out investigations locally and for the wider region.

Minimum Requirements:
1. Registered Nurse – Adult or Mental Health
2. Current NMC registration
3. Experience of working with patients, face to face, who have complex mental health conditions
4. Experience of psychosocial interventions, group work, and awareness of substance misuse
5. Sound clinical knowledge and assessment skills.
6. Existing line management experience and student nurse mentorship.
