Overview
Job Summary
Under direction and supervision of a surgical technician, the surgical technician extern provides assistance to the surgeon by passing instruments, assuring the functioning of instruments, and keeping instruments free of debris during surgical procedures. Shares responsibility for patient safety in accordance with the policy and procedure for sponge, needle, and instrument counts.
Responsibilities
Principal Duties and Responsibilities (Under direction and supervision of surgical technician)
1. Performs scrubbing duties, according to standards, for all surgical preparation, for all specialties, including but not limited to General, Gynecology, Urology, Neurology, Orthopedics, Cardiovascular, and Plastic/ENT.
2. Sets up the operating room in accordance with instructions and physician requests.
3. Ensures the operating room is cleaned and set up for turnover for the next procedure.
4. Restocks rooms with supplies and notifies leadership if items are running short, or if there are any quality problems.
5. Organizes equipment and ensures equipment is placed in an orderly, neat, and clean area for use by physicians and other staff.
6. Performs other duties as needed and/or assigned.

Education
* Currently enrolled in an accredited Surgical Technology Program is required.
* High School Diploma/GED equivalent in General Studies is required.
Experience
* Additional experience - Enrollment in an accredited Surgical Technology Program.
Certifications and Licensures
* License/Certification is required upon graduation.
* Certified Cardiac Pulmonary Resuscitation is required.
