What you will be doing
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Materials Engineer - Failure Investigator to join the Lifecycle Services team within the Manufacturing Engineering & Materials function, based in Bristol.
As a Materials Engineer - Failure Investigator, you will provide knowledge and expertise to support fleet safety and reliability, via the application of materials science and 'forensic-style' analysis of failed components (or systems) by developing a fundamental failure mode understanding to feed into service management and future programmes. You will collaborate with other internal departments, specialists, external customers and governing bodies.
We are looking for a motivated problem-solver that is not afraid to be placed out of their comfort zone to learn quickly about unfamiliar components and analytical techniques.
Responsibilities
You will resolve failure investigations through evaluative methods and technical knowledge/justification. You will also:
1. Analyse factual information from multiple sources, interpret results and identify effective solutions by applying your own technical knowledge, expertise and engineering judgement.
2. Collaborate cross-functionally to identify all information pertinent to the investigation, liaise with other departments for route cause understanding and present results to customers.
3. Be responsible for defined technical packages of work providing leadership and delivery against programme milestones within agreed costs, timescales and quality requirements.
4. Be a point of contact within Materials Engineering and to share subject matter knowledge across the function. This may include providing advisory services to designated customers, influencing their peer group, representing senior departmental staff and acting as advisor / coach on matters where they are technically authoritative.
5. Understand company business objectives and ensure that the work they do supports this; to act in accordance with both the company values and those associated with being a professional engineer.
6. Actively promote, encourage and support the identification and implementation of continuous improvement both within and outside their immediate sphere and prompt action across the wider team.
