Plant Oxford is the birthplace and heart of MINI production. Manufactured to individual customer specifications, hundreds of MINIs leave the plant’s assembly lines each day, off to meet new owners in more than 110 countries around the world. Three UK plants have a part to play in MINI production – Plant Hams Hall makes engines, Plant Swindon produces body pressings and sub-assemblies for MINI, and all this comes together at Plant Oxford with body shell production, paint and final assembly.
About The Production System
The BMW Group is recruiting an intern to support the various activities of the Production System Department, based at MINI Plant Oxford.
As the Production System department, we steer our business towards competitiveness by focusing on the following areas at both Plants Oxford and Swindon.
* Plant Steering: Implementing a robust Business Planning process driven by challenging Targets, developing and communicating a comprehensive Business Strategy.
* Executive Assistant: Supporting with the facilitation of the Leadership Circles and the coordination of critical plant topics and visits, including those of VIPs.
* Digitalisation: The acceleration and coordination of Digitalisation and Innovation projects.
* Value-Added Production System (VPS): A self-sustaining continuous improvement process for plant-wide operations.
* Plant Development: Planning future-proof Plant Structures in alignment with all business functions.
What will you be doing? (Plant Steering)
As the Plant Steering intern, you will play a key role in supporting the strategic planning and decision-making processes for MINI Plants Oxford and Swindon. You will work closely with cross-functional teams to analyse business data, identify opportunities for improvement, and develop recommendations to enhance the plant's operational efficiency and competitiveness. Key topics include:
* Strategy Development and Communication: Supporting the development and communication of the plant's strategic direction and objectives in collaboration with various teams across the plant.
* Target Management Reporting: Collaborating with central teams to sustain the usage of the new KPI monitoring system and provide support to the local users. Preparing monthly reports based on the performance data.
* Visit, Event and Workshop Support: Coordinating schedules, preparing materials, supporting events to ensure smooth execution.
* Team Administration Support: Providing general administrative support to the team, including scheduling, setting up and facilitating meetings, organising files and documents and assisting with other day-to-day administrative duties to ensure the efficient operation and coordination of team functions.
* Plant Housekeeping: Conduct the necessary audits and continually develop/maintain trackers that highlight the locations, quantities and types of various plant visuals.
Whilst the above topics are specific to Plant Steering, you will also have the opportunity to support and get involved with other functions of the team that interest you.
Qualifications and Skills
* Studying towards an Undergraduate Degree in a Business/Operations Management related subject and on track to achieving a 2:2 standard or higher.
* Able to demonstrate proven project management and problem-solving skills (experience preferable).
* Expected to be self-motivated and work as part of a team of experts managing a broad spectrum of complex topics.
* Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams and external stakeholders.
* A methodical and structured approach to planning and delivering tasks.
* Digital proficiency preferred (Microsoft Office Suite).
* Beneficial skills include creative mindset (use of Photoshop, Canva, PowerPoint etc).
