Job overview
We are currently looking for a Therapy Assistant to join our Specialised Stroke and Neuro Team at St Margaret's Hospital, which provides Occupational Therapy, Physiotherapy and Speech and Language Therapy to patients following a stroke or Neurological episode either on the ward or within our Early Stroke Discharge team in patient's homes across West Essex.
Main duties of the job
The Therapy Assistant will work collaboratively with therapy, medical and nursing staff to support and facilitate rehabilitation of patients. The post holder will work as part of the therapy team with training, supervision and ongoing support from therapists.
Relevant experience of working in a healthcare setting as an assistant is required. You will need to demonstrate a flexible approach to your work, good time management and organisational skills and have the ability to work on your own initiative in a busy environment. It is essential that you possess a current driving licence and have access to a car for work purposes.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
* Working under the direction of qualified staff to facilitate rehabilitation and enablement of patients on both the Stroke and neuro rehabilitation ward (Beech) and in the community as part of the Stroke Early Supported Discharge Service.
* Assist in the planning, delivery and evaluation of activities within the rehabilitation programmes to meet the needs of the individual and offer a patient-centred service.
* Enabling the patient to achieve full potential according to patient-centred goals, aiming towards independence.
* To work within competencies under direct and indirect supervision of the therapy staff to implement and deliver specific tasks as part of goal directed treatment and rehabilitation programmes.
* To work under own initiative and within competencies with rehabilitation activities following directed programmes and adapting them to meet the needs of the individual with indirect support of the therapist (programmes will include physical, communication, cognitive, functional and swallowing rehabilitation).

Qualifications
* Good general education including Maths and English A-C.
Car access
* Access to car to travel between sites.
* Knowledge in basic IT programmes.
