St. George’s Crypt is a Christian charity based in Leeds, dedicated to providing shelter, support, and hope to the homeless, vulnerable, and those suffering from addiction. Our mission is to offer a safe environment with physical, emotional, and spiritual support for those in need. Guided by our Christian values, we are committed to promoting evangelism and relieving hardship among disadvantaged individuals.
Job Purpose:
To contribute to the small finance function in delivering timely, accurate information to the charity, allowing the distribution of reports and performance led data and maintaining the financial records for the Charity. Work is split between two part-time finance administrators, although an expected knowledge of each other’s role is required for holiday cover.
Key Responsibilities:
Finance and Accounts Responsibilities
1. Processing receipts and payments and reconciling bank accounts.
2. Preparation of BACS payments for approval.
3. To reconcile credit card receipts with the monthly statements and distribute to collate account coding for allocation to the general ledger.
4. Weekly petty cash administration for the Crypt, the Shops, and Hostels including authorisation of cash payments and preparation of reconciliation.
5. Preparation of daily income spreadsheets.
6. Paying in monies to the bank.
7. Inputting sales and purchase invoices and maintaining all ledgers – sales, purchase and nominal.
8. Checking of timesheets and preparation of payroll data spreadsheets.
9. Assist with the preparation of monthly management accounts information and annual accounting information to agreed timetables.
10. Assist in obtaining backup and details of items required by the finance assistance utilised in monthly reporting.
11. Visiting various sites as and when required.
Communication and Fundraising
1. Attending staff meetings as required.
2. Liaise with other agencies and organisations as appropriate.
Personal Development
1. Attend courses and conferences and seek to gain any necessary qualifications, which are relevant to the work and as approved by the Head of Finance or Chief Executive Officer.
Safeguarding Responsibilities:
1. Enforcing the company’s safeguarding policy.
2. Being alert to and recognising welfare issues, being sure to challenge poor practice.
3. Sharing appropriate information with relevant people.
4. Continually working with the families of residents and service users, sharing information and contributing to plans if a concern is investigated.
5. Ensuring that all staff having contact with children, vulnerable adults and/or their families have received appropriate training on safeguarding issues.
6. To understand and implement working practices set by the Safeguarding Adults and Children Board.
7. To understand and implement working standards set by the domestic violence and abuse quality mark documentation.
Charity Wide Responsibilities:
1. Applying an attitude towards forgiveness and justice informed by biblical and Christian theological principles in dealing with all staff, volunteers, and clients.
2. Participate in the daily prayer life of the Charity.
3. Recognising the holistic needs of all service users and in accordance with the Trust Deed and affirm the spiritual needs of clients in their situations and either respond directly or refer as appropriate.
4. To understand and implement working practices set by the Safeguarding Adults and Children Board.
5. To understand and implement working standards set by the domestic violence and abuse quality mark documentation.
Due to the nature of the role and the workplace, the post holder must be over 18 years of age.
1. Attend training courses and conferences in order to maintain personal development as agreed with Line Manager.

1. DBS Cleared
2. Safeguarding training
3. Flexible attitude towards working arrangements
4. Professional attitude and approach
5. Previous experience in bookkeeping (2 years)
6. Experience working with Microsoft Excel and Sage Line 50 & HR
7. Highly numerate
8. Work well within a small team
9. Ability to manage and prioritise own workload
10. Ability to work under pressure and to tight deadlines
11. Credit control experience
12. Petty cash experience
13. An existing knowledge of the work of St George’s Crypt and their client groups
14. Clear understanding and ability to work within the ethos of the charity
15. Experience in working for a third sector organisation
16. Professional qualification in accounting or finance is preferable (ie, AAT)
