Service Care Legal are currently looking for an experienced and highly skilled Senior Property Lawyer to join a local authority on permanent basis. This permanent position requires an individual with expertise in property law, procurement, commissioning, and conveyancing. As the Team Leader, you will manage a small team of 3-4 support colleagues while providing expert legal advice on complex property-related matters. Your primary focus will be supporting the Council's property portfolio, delivering high-quality legal services across various property transactions, and offering strategic legal guidance on procurement and commissioning matters.
ROLE: Senior Property Lawyer
LOCATION: Bedfordshire (Hybrid – Minimum 2 days per week in Bedford)
SALARY: £49,498 to £53,578
Key Responsibilities:
1. Team Leadership: Manage and mentor a small legal team, providing supervision, guidance, and support on property-related legal matters. Ensure your team delivers high-quality legal services within agreed timeframes and to a high standard.
2. Legal Advice: Advise on complex and high-profile property matters, particularly related to the Council’s property portfolio, including acquisitions, disposals, and leases.
3. Procurement & Commissioning: Provide legal advice and support on procurement and commissioning processes, ensuring compliance with relevant laws and regulations.
4. Conveyancing: Lead on conveyancing matters, ensuring legal processes related to property transactions are carried out efficiently and in accordance with legal and regulatory standards.
5. Stakeholder Engagement: Work closely with other Council departments to provide integrated legal support and advice, ensuring that the legal needs of the property portfolio are met.
6. Performance Management: Oversee the professional development of your team, ensuring that all members are supported in their roles, motivated, and working to the best of their abilities.
Key Skills and Qualifications:
1. Qualified Solicitor or Barrister: Must hold a current practicing certificate.
2. Property Law Expertise: Extensive experience in property law, including procurement, commissioning, and conveyancing.
3. Staff Management: Proven experience managing a legal team, with a focus on developing staff and ensuring high-quality service delivery.
4. Legal Strategy: Strong strategic thinking with the ability to advise on complex legal matters and manage high-profile projects.
5. Communication Skills: Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to build strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
This role requires a hybrid working arrangement with a minimum of 2 days per week in Bedford. Candidates must have staff management experience in a legal environment and be able to handle complex property-related legal matters effectively.
