Critical Care, Echo & Ultrasound
Applications are invited for the post of Clinical Fellow in Intensive Care Medicine. Previous postgraduate experience in intensive care medicine is a desired criteria.
The Trust provides acute medical and surgical services to a population of around 500,000, which more than doubles during the busy holiday periods. The Critical Care Department is situated at Treliske Hospital, Truro. Currently, there is provision for the delivery of combined level 3 and level 2 care for patients in a newly refurbished, purpose-built state of the art unit.
Main duties of the job
The post holder will participate in a rolling full-shift rota covering the critical care unit. The post is suitable for ICM stage 2 Special Skills Year in ECHO.
This post has been developed to tackle the increasing work intensity on the critical care, but its main objective is to permit the post holder to achieve FUSIC (Focused Ultrasound for Intensive Care) accreditation in heart, lung, abdominal, vascular access and deep vein thrombosis.
This new accreditation combines the pre-existing Focused Intensive Care Echocardiography (FICE) and Core Ultrasound Skills in Intensive Care (CUSIC) into one, more easily achievable process. In addition, post holders will be encouraged to complete the Level 1 British Society of Echocardiography accreditation in Transthoracic Echocardiography (TTE).
We have successfully taken multiple clinical fellows through both FICE and CUSIC and have had trainees gain the level 1 accreditation.
