About the Role: As a Complex Needs Support Assistant, you will play a crucial role in assisting students with a range of additional needs, including autism, sensory impairments, communication difficulties and physical disabilities. You will work closely with teachers, therapists and other support staff to ensure that every student receives a personalised, engaging and inclusive education.
Complex Needs Support Assistant Responsibilities:
* Provide one-to-one and small group support to students with complex needs, ensuring their engagement and well-being.
* Assist with personalised learning activities tailored to individual abilities and EHCP (Education, Health and Care Plan) objectives.
* Support students with sensory and communication needs, using specialist strategies such as PECS, Makaton, or AAC (Augmentative and Alternative Communication).
* Help with personal care routines where required, promoting dignity and independence.
* Work collaboratively with teachers and SEN specialists to create a safe and stimulating learning environment.
* Implement behaviour management strategies to support students in overcoming challenges and achieving their full potential.
* Foster positive relationships with students, parents and staff to contribute to a supportive school community.
Complex Needs Support Assistant Job Requirements:
* Previous experience working with children or young people with complex needs, either in an educational, healthcare, or social care setting.
* A relevant qualification in Childcare, SEN, Psychology, Health & Social Care, or a related field is desirable but not essential.
* A calm, patient and empathetic approach with strong communication skills.
* Knowledge of alternative communication methods (such as Makaton, PECS, or AAC) is advantageous.
* Ability to provide personal care support where required.
* Have an updated CV (covering the last ten years barring any unexplained gaps) and an enhanced DBS registered to the Update Service (or be willing to apply for one).
