Job overview
We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Operational Database Administrator (ODBA) to manage and maintain our databases and support the wider Trust Platforms Team. The successful candidate will ensure the stability, performance, and reliability of our database environments, and will play a critical role in supporting our healthcare IT infrastructure.
Main duties of the job
Main Duties and Responsibilities:
* Developing enterprise architectural standards for platforms aligned with the group digital strategy.
* Producing and maintaining clear documentation on developed applications and complex environments.
* Supporting and maintaining EPIC strategic Operational Database (ODB) environments.
* Ensuring high availability and performance of databases supporting the Information team and Trust data warehouse developers.
* Proactive monitoring and management of environments to ensure optimal performance and integrity.
* Maintaining knowledge of high availability and disaster recovery options for MS SQL server.
* Documenting end-user requirements and creating bespoke SQL queries and code.
* Providing advice to non-technical Clinical and Admin staff in preparing detailed requirement specifications.

Qualifications
* Degree or equivalent qualification in an IT related subject
* Management Qualification
* Evidence of Personal Development
* Certification in relevant technology e.g. MCP, MCSE, etc
Experience / Knowledge
* Knowledge and experience of software development / database design and management
* Linux skills, particularly with RHEL 7, using the CLI
* Scripting knowledge with a particular focus on the creation of reusable scripts for automating routine tasks
* Experience of Microsoft Visual Basic, Microsoft Access, Microsoft SQL Server and Web Development using .Net (C#, ASP.net & VB.Net)
* Windows server and virtualisation skills
* Significant experience of Microsoft SQL Server.
* Highly advanced data manipulation & interpretation skills using MS Excel and MS SQL Server tools.
* Substantial experience of IT project management including contribution to IT business cases, and production of relevant project documentation
* Proven Agile methodology experience
* Significant experience in working in a large, complex, multi-site IT environment
* Experience in service continuity / disaster recovery planning
* Previous experience in NHS IT environment Project Management
* Strong Caché skills in a critical operational environment
* Knowledge of OLAP as well as OLTP databases
* Knowledge of Business Objects administration.
* Knowledge of ITIL change control
* Knowledge of IT Infrastructure Library (ITIL) Best Practice
