Although Northpoint are not commissioned to provide diagnostic assessments, the postholder will have discretion and flexibility to meet face-to-face with young people/families in order to better determine suitability for autism or ADHD assessment and to assess for other potential presentations.
Main duties of the job
Duties and responsibilities:
1. Manage and hold oversight of the neurodevelopmental referral pathway and processes.
2. Identify and action risk, vulnerability, and safeguarding concerns effectively.
3. Help to ensure referrals are processed and families are contacted in a timely manner.
4. Assess and provide evidence-based clinical suitability decisions to progress referrals for neuro assessment or signpost/advise appropriately where suitability for assessment is not indicated.
5. Manage and allocate workflow across a team of personnel.
6. Manage a caseload and respond to concerns and complaints in line with policy.
7. Support with data and impact monitoring.
8. Quality assure service delivery, ensuring accurate information recording on relevant systems.
9. Contribute to the development of progressive policies and procedures across the service.
10. Attend and chair internal and external meetings as required.
11. Represent Northpoint/Open Minds (CAMHS) at local and regional forums.
12. Deputise in the absence of the Service Manager and the clinical pathway navigators.
About us
Northpoint have been commissioned by the NHS to deliver part of the innovative and forward-looking Open Minds (CAMHS) since 2014. We co-deliver the service with South West Yorkshire Partnership NHS Trust (SWYT). Northpoint’s element of the service includes the First Point of Contact which is the single point of contact for all mental health and neurodevelopmental referrals for children and young people in Calderdale.
Northpoint also provides the Mental Health Support Team in schools, and the Thrive-informed Getting Help therapeutic service. In addition, we act as lead provider for 3 VCSE organisations in order to facilitate partnership working and ensure joined-up referral pathways.
In collaboration with commissioners, partners, families and other stakeholders, Northpoint has made significant developments to the neurodevelopmental referral process in order to meet increasing levels of demand and changing need. We have embraced digital technology and adapted our staffing model to ensure we are able to provide children, young people, families and professionals with a timely and helpful response to their requests for support.
Northpoint has established a reputation as a trailblazer in our work to offer informed Patient Choice of assessment provider via the Right to Choose Choice process, as well as piloting digital guided self-help offers such as Silvercloud which can be accessed with minimal waits and without diagnosis.

The role will involve working in our modern offices in Halifax alongside a skilled and friendly team to oversee and develop our children & young people’s neurodevelopmental referral pathway.
The role would suit qualified and registered professionals from a range of backgrounds including a mental health nurse, speech and language therapist, occupational therapist, social worker, health visitor, clinical psychologist, or other allied health professional.
The option of full-time or part-time or term-time only working is available.

You would join Northpoint’s NHS commissioned Calderdale Open Minds (CAMHS) service which is co-delivered with South West Yorkshire NHS Foundation Trust (SWYT). Northpoint’s element of CAMHS includes the First Point of Contact which is the single point of access for mental health and neurodevelopmental referrals for children and young people.
We are seeking an experienced clinician to oversee the CYP autism and ADHD referral pathway and to support future developments as we engage in wider system transformation and strive for continuous improvement and quality.

The postholder will be supported to maintain their professional registration, receive clinical supervision, and conduct relevant clinical work. They will attend regular MDT (multi-disciplinary team) meetings with our NHS partners.
The post will also involve supporting and supervising other staff to help develop their skills and experience in supporting children and young people with neurodevelopmental conditions.
You will play a key role in ensuring that children, young people and families experience high quality, safe and evidence-based care as they move through the system.

Person Specification
Qualifications
* Educated to degree level with a relevant professional qualification: Occupational Therapist, Speech and Language Therapist, Children's Nurse, Learning Disability Nurse, Mental Health Nurse, Clinical Psychologist, Social Worker or similar.
* Registered and/or accredited with a relevant professional body.
* Further studies, training or research in autism and/or ADHD.
* Good working knowledge of IT systems Word, Outlook, Excel, Access, Patient Management System.
* Understanding of the pressures facing professionals who support children and young people, such as schools, children's social care and GPs.
* Awareness of relevant agencies to access support in the locality.
* Knowledge of the NHS Right to Choose/Patient Choice initiative.
Experience & Ability
* Experience of working in a neurodevelopmental assessment team or working in a role which involves determining clinical suitability for neurodevelopmental assessment.
* Experience of working with children and young people who have a diagnosis or who show signs of neurodevelopmental conditions.
* Awareness and experience of identifying the range of emotional health problems which can affect children and young people.
* Experience of working with parent/carers.
* Experience of identifying and responding appropriately to child protection and safeguarding concerns in respect of children and young people.
* Experience of working with and being part of a multidisciplinary team.
* Experience of providing clinical supervision and/or line management.
* Experience of working in an NHS Trust as part of a multi-disciplinary team.
