The Roseworthy Veterinary Hospital (RVH) is the School’s clinical teaching facility which operates on a commercial basis, offering a range of first opinion, ambulatory and specialist veterinary services across all animal species to the general public and referring veterinarians. The RVH is a leading-edge primary practice and referral care veterinary clinic offering the latest technology, equipment and professional services to treat small companion animals of all species. The RVH offers high quality first opinion, referral and 24 / 7 emergency and critical care veterinary services to the public and provides a clinical training environment for final year veterinary students working under the close supervision of experienced veterinary surgeons, nurses and support staff.
The Role
The successful candidate will work primarily with the medical oncology and internal medicine specialty clinicians, and will join one other nurse to support this team. The role requires excellent communication skills as it involves a lot of client contact. Patients under the care of oncology and internal medicine often have multiple complex concurrent disease states and these cases require prolonged and compassionate conversations with often emotional owners. Oncology / medicine nurses perform a range of tasks to support the specialists including, collecting histories from owners, performing TPRs on pets, collecting blood, preparing and cleaning up after specialised procedures such as chemotherapy administration and endoscopy, completing components of the medical record, and assisting with teaching of rotating DVM and vet nursing students. This role will involve administering hazardous chemicals (chemotherapy) in a controlled environment utilizing all recommended safety protocols.
About You
An enthusiastic, team-oriented nurse with a passion for delivering the highest standards of service and care, you have proven experience as a qualified veterinary nurse in a clinical setting. You are able to work in high pressure situations, have excellent communication and interpersonal skills and are motivated to mentor the next generation of vets by imparting knowledge and modelling the highest standards of professional behaviour.
To be successful you will need :
1. Certificate IV in Veterinary Nursing with a minimum of 2 years experience
2. Demonstrates capacity to work in a collaborative and dynamic hospital, while maintaining best practices and mentorship for students in a teaching hospital.
3. Attention to detail in administering treatments, record keeping and documentation.
4. Demonstrated experience and / or knowledge of Occupational Health and Safety.
5. Demonstrates veterinary nursing experience with sound technical skills and knowledge in area of interest (Surgery and Anaesthesia, ECC, Internal Medicine, or Oncology).
6. Demonstrates a professional attitude when working with clients and other staff members.
