As Commercial Counsel you will be a qualified Lawyer / Solicitor. You will be required to draft, negotiate and interpret a broad range of commercial agreements, advise on contentious and non-contentious matters for the business, assist in managing its IP portfolio, assist the General Counsel in ensuring compliance (for example Code of Conduct and Advertising Standards Agency work) and effectively managing external law firms. You will be working on matters sometimes covering different legal jurisdictions and collaborating with people at different levels within the business. You will help manage trainees in the business and support them up to qualification.
Your key stakeholders will include the Procurement and Supply Chain leadership team, Commercial team, Panel law firms, Legal Director, General Counsel, Executive Committee.
Key Responsibilities:
* Draft, negotiate, and interpret a broad range of commercial agreements.
* Advise on contentious and non-contentious matters.
* Assist in managing the IP portfolio.
* Support the General Counsel in ensuring compliance, including Code of Conduct and Advertising Standards Agency work.
* Effectively manage external law firms.
* Collaborate with stakeholders at different levels within the business.
* Manage and support trainees up to qualification.
Minimum Requirements:
* At least 10 years PQE at a major commercial law firm or large PLC in-house department.
* At least a 2:1 from an established university.
* Strong track record of negotiating commercial deals.
* Experience with contracts, compliance, and general corporate matters.
* Experience in drafting, interpreting, and negotiating agreements.
* Experience dealing with contentious and non-contentious matters.
* Working knowledge of ASA compliance and data protection issues.
