Waterton Academy Trust is delighted to be looking to appoint a committed and experienced teaching assistant to join the staff team.
Newstead Academy is a purpose-built independent unit for children in KS1 and KS2 that opened in September 2023. It provides an environment that empowers children to make progress, providing the support required to develop according to their personal needs as identified in their Education Health and Care Plan.
To join us on this exciting journey, we are seeking practitioners with expertise in supporting children, or a willingness to develop within this area, with a range of additional and complex needs, particularly those with ASD and social communication/interaction difficulties. We are looking for applicants with experience of working with a range of communication strategies and systems such as Pictorial Exchange Communication Systems (PECS) and Makaton signing systems, as well as experience of working with bespoke/personalised curriculums to meet individual needs.
The whole staff team works in a positive and collaborative environment where the needs of the children are at the heart of all best practice and decision-making. This is an exciting opportunity to be part of a strong and dedicated team committed to high standards and creating an inclusive learning environment for all children.
Waterton Academy Trust consists of 13 primary phase schools, 1 specialist SEN unit attached to a school, 1 specialist setting, and 4 pre-schools in the Wakefield and Barnsley area. As part of this Trust, both staff and children enjoy varied opportunities for collaboration in all areas of the curriculum.
We are looking for teaching assistants who:
* Have relevant experience of working with pupils with complex needs
* Are positive and confident in using their knowledge of current theory and practice in teaching and learning, and SEND
* Are ready to utilise the benefits of a curriculum that is innovative and flexible in terms of delivery and content
* Will be engaged with the provision’s ethos, thinking creatively and reflectively within an open and honest team, whilst keeping the needs of the pupils firmly at the centre
* Are able to share best practice, be flexible and compassionate
* Will develop positive relationships with pupils and be able to use a variety of strategies to meet individual needs
* Will be enthusiastic, confident, and able to use their initiative
* Will play a full part in the life of the academy and be committed to working in partnership with staff and parents
* Will relish opportunities for continuing professional development
In return, Waterton Academy Trust can offer:
* Friendly and supportive colleagues with a forward-thinking leadership team
* A commitment to your professional development
* An opportunity to complete a nationally recognised qualification
* Fantastic opportunities for collaboration with colleagues across the Waterton family of schools
* A health and wellbeing package
* A cycle to work scheme
* An excellent pension package
