Stream Marine Training (SMT) is a world class provider of firefighting, sea survival, survival craft and HSE approved and certified training courses to the global maritime, oil and gas, renewables, and construction industries.
We are currently seeking a Marine Instructor to join our team based at our training facilities at Glasgow Airport.
The courses we deliver include both theory and practical lessons and we work across multiple awarding bodies and several industries.
We are looking for a candidate who can deliver courses professionally, confidently, and highly organized with exceptional presentation skills, an eye for detail. You will be joining a company which puts the clients first and will be part of a passionate, dynamic, and highly motivated team of instructors who deliver first-class training.
Instructor Specifications
* At least 6 months sea time with Merchant Navy (essential)
* Chief Officer higher (essential)
* Tanker Experience (essential)
* Valid STCW certificates or be willing to attend course when appointed (desirable)
* Previous experience of delivering MCA / STCW Safety & Survival courses (desirable)
* A background in the Maritime sector (essential)
* Train the Trainer and Assessor Qualifications or equivalent (desirable)
* Knowledge of PowerPoint, Excel & Word formats.
Key Responsibilities
* This role is to develop and deliver high-quality training for our delegates.
* Competent to deliver MCA approved courses or work towards after a period of training to include HELM O + M Security Awareness, Designated Security Duties, Personal Safety and Social Responsibility etc.
* Assist with day-to-day operations to include routine boats and davit maintenance, during scheduled courses act as davit operator and able to self-launch rescue boat to assist vessels that may be in difficulty.
* Assess students: Evaluate the students’ (academic) progress, achievements, course knowledge and skills through assignments, tests, and examinations. Diagnose their needs and track their progress, strengths, and weaknesses.
* Give constructive feedback: Provide founded feedback through both criticism and praise in a respectful, clear, and consistent manner. Highlight achievements as well as mistakes and set up methods of formative assessment to evaluate work.
* Assist students in their learning: Support and coach students in their work, give learners practical support and encouragement.
* Adapt teaching to student’s capabilities: Identify the learning struggles and successes of students. Select teaching and learning strategies that support students’ individual learning needs and goals.
* Provide lesson materials: Ensure that the necessary materials for teaching a class, such as visual aids, are prepared, up-to-date, and present in the instruction space.
* Perform classroom management: Maintain discipline and engage students during instruction.

* To deliver courses that you are approved to deliver to a high standard, customer-centric way ensuring all the specific learning outcomes are achieved.
* Ensure delegates and staff on courses are in a safe and compliant environment.
* Ensure courses run efficiently on time and to agreed course timetables.
* Ensure all company policies, procedures and operating instructions are followed and feedback sent to your Line Manager where updates are required.
* Carry out continued updating of courses assigned to you to ensure ongoing compliance.
* Ensure your own qualifications are kept up to date to deliver courses.
* Ensure for each lesson all the relevant preparation, teaching materials, equipment and documents are in order / working to deliver the course.
* Work with the Safety & Survival Team to continue the safety culture of the Group.
* Carry out daily checks on equipment and report any deficiencies to the Team Leader immediately.
