Role Purpose
* To manage and/or provide direction to others, so that actuarial services provided within the entity are in line with the actuarial business plan and broader strategic objectives within Aspen.
* To actively achieve solutions for complex technical challenges by developing, enhancing and maintaining tools and platforms, in support of the strategic objectives of the company through achieving plan loss ratios for Aspen; whilst ensuring corporate and actuarial governance standards are met.
* The role requires the ability to appropriately interact with relevant stakeholders, both within and outside Actuarial, to secure their buy-in and have the ability to apply knowledge and insights concerning actuarial techniques and knowledge.

Key Results Areas
Strategy and Planning
* Gathering information and contribute to prioritisation of development activities for fit-for-purpose tools with user-friendly interfaces, efficient calculation engines, appropriate databases and clear and appropriate analytics with alignment to strategic company goals.
* Contributes to functional strategy development and prioritises operational deliverables and activities of team to support delivery of overall business targets.
* Contribute to shaping Actuarial strategy and provide tactical leadership and support to colleagues to achieve positive results for the business in line with strategy.
* Contribute to the delivery of key Actuarial projects in line with Actuarial strategic vision.
Policy, Process and Procedures
* Provide appropriate level of governance, as well as documentation/training material for the specific work being undertaken, in line with professional standards and/or Aspen specific standards and regulatory requirements.
* Provide appropriate level of documentation and training to users of the pricing tools.
* Develop, maintain and validate actuarial systems, data, reporting and procedures to ensure that these are aligned with business needs and fit for purpose - This is to include adopting efficient and consistent actuarial models and processes and/or technologies where appropriate.
* Undertake investigations on model usage to identify misuse or to identify training needs, as required.
Technical Performance
* Specify approaches, structure, and associated testing of actuarial analysis and models, as required.
* Act as a subject matter expert, ensuring the models are equipped with the most appropriate actuarial techniques and diagnostics.
* Maintain and develop actuarial best practice in line with the strategic priorities of the business.
* Identify areas for process or actuarial methodology improvement and create cases for these to be implemented as appropriate.
* Contribute to the development of Aspen Pricing principles and standards, monitor adherence by users and provide training as necessary.
Knowledge
* Expert knowledge of actuarial analysis and techniques across insurance pricing and model development.
* Strong technical experience with data manipulation.
* Understanding of simulation techniques and other actuarial techniques used for pricing loss sensitive product features.
* Good understanding of financial services industry best practice in actuarial analysis, modelling, and underwriting.
* Good understanding of compliance issues.
* Demonstrate a degree of understanding of coding, database design & effective process flow.
Skills
* Effective communication.
* Expert user in Excel and other analytical tools.
* Ability to conceptualise and lead others in their use for solving specific problems.
* Excellent in the use and interpretation of numerical data.
* Ability to organize work to meet deadlines.
* Ability to work within defined procedures as recommended by functional teams.
* Good working knowledge of MS Access, MS PowerPoint and MS Word (essential).
Experience
* Qualified Actuary (preferably Fellow of) accredited by Institute of Actuaries or equivalent body.
* Extensive experience in corporate or consulting environment, the majority in general insurance.
* Extensive general experience in insurance industry involving data/analysis/systems/projects.
* Preferred area of studies in a field where analytical and problem-solving skills are fundamental and clear written and verbal communication skills were encouraged.
* Experience in pricing general insurance business (preferable).
