This is an exciting opportunity for a positive and hardworking individual to join our Portering Team.
We provide a wide range of duties created by the demands of The Shrewsbury and Telford Hospital NHS Trust. These duties include the movement of patients throughout the Trust, collection and delivery of mail, transport of blood products, movement of office furniture, the movement of waste, and a host of duties that provide a high standard of care to our patients.
The successful candidate should have a basic knowledge of using a mobile device as iPods are an integral part of the Portering role.

Main duties of the job
1. To carry out duties relating to specialist departments, including outside agencies such as Shropdoc.
2. To assist the Chargehand Porters with the training and induction of new staff for an initial period until they feel confident to carry out the duties on their own.
3. To collect and deliver hostess trolleys and crockery trolleys between the wards and the Catering Department.
4. To collect dirty linen and general refuse from all wards and departments disposal cupboards and the accommodation block and dispose of in the compactor located in the loading bay area. Dirty linen to be loaded into linen cages and placed on the loading bay awaiting collection.
5. To circulate mail and clerical data to all wards and departments within the hospital and collect and deliver mail off site.

The successful candidate will be expected to work on a rotational basis which will include 24-hour cover including weekends, nights, and bank holidays.
The post holder will ensure that the Portering service is of the highest quality and efficiency and will work within Trust Values.

Person Specification
Experience
1. Experience of working in contact with the general public although full training will be given.
2. Experience of working within a care service or similar background.
3. Ability to follow simple instructions with minimal supervision.
4. Ability to organise work and operate within a system.
5. Ability to work on own initiative.
