Public Health AmeriCorps is a national service program designed to train a diverse new generation of public health leaders and create healthier, more resilient communities.
Join our team as an AmeriCorps Community Health Worker in-training with Epilepsy Foundation New England (EFNE). We are currently seeking qualified candidates to serve, learn, and gain practical experience in our unique, 11-month program. This full-time position offers the possibility to partner with one of our host-site hospitals throughout New England. Each host site may have expectations of weekly in-person service, as well as language requirements.
As an AmeriCorps Member in our Epilepsy Resource Room Corps, you’ll gain valuable experience working with a talented team at EFNE, as well as our host-site partners. While supporting our Programs and Services team, you’ll have opportunities to make a real impact in the lives of those living with epilepsy. Examples of community engagement include providing referrals to a variety of community-based programs and resources, and offering support to increase the quality of life for patients and families living with epilepsy.
We offer a hybrid work environment and flexible scheduling, along with a living allowance paid in installments every other week, and an education award for those successfully concluding the program.
Responsibilities Include:
* Provide active listening, support, and coaching to patients to improve health and wellness.
* Build connections among patients through community-based events.
* Weekly in-person service at the host-site’s discretion.
* Connect patients to EFNE, hospitals, and community resources.
* Arrange inpatient support and/or recreational programs.
* Assist in new initiatives as well as participate in interventions, telehealth, resource referrals, and back-to-school support.
* Mentor patients and connect them to community resources.
* Conduct community outreach.
* Maintain a library of helpful literature.
* Provide support to host-site hospitals with their unique needs and programming.
Requirements:
* Availability to serve 35-40 hours per week.
* Minimum High School Diploma/GED – (bachelor’s degree preferred).
* 18 years of age or older.
* Legal authorization to work in the United States.
* Passion for working with diverse populations.
* Motivation and aptitude for outreach and networking.
* Interest in nonprofit organizations and their development.
* Ability to balance AmeriCorps service with other commitments in a sustainable way.
* Organizational and communication skills.
* Proven project management abilities.
* Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
* Flexibility, patience, and a good sense of humor.

Service commitment will be between 35-40 hours per week, generally performed Monday-Friday 9 am-5 pm, with some weekends and evenings scheduled with notice.
