Job Summary:
Raymarine UK are looking for a Workshop and Prototyping Manager who will work closely with the development teams to bring innovative ideas to life, facilitating rapid prototyping and iterative development.
The successful candidate will help develop capabilities and equipment to ensure efficient production of high-quality prototypes and proof of principle models. Being an integral part of the team, the Workshop and Prototyping Manager will support our product development goals and wider business.
This role requires an experienced ‘hands-on’ engineer with extensive experience of traditional and rapid prototyping techniques, manufacturing processes and materials.
Primary Duties & Responsibilities:
Workshop Management
1. Overseeing the daily operations of the workshop, ensuring all equipment is maintained and used safely.
2. Managing the inventory of materials and tools, ensuring availability and proper storage.
3. Implement and maintain health and safety standards, ensuring a safe working environment.
4. Identifying and implementing opportunities to develop our workshop and prototyping facilities in line with the business strategy and wider industry.
5. Arranging training for other workshop users and promoting best practices.
Prototyping and Fabrication
6. Creating prototypes, jigs, fixtures and proof of principle models utilising various materials and techniques including Machining, 3D Printing and traditional hand tools.
7. Manage multiple prototyping projects simultaneously, ensuring that deadlines are met.
8. Manufacturing support for other business functions as required.
Job Qualifications:
9. Experience working in a fast-paced product development environment.
10. Proficiency in the use of machine tools and rapid prototyping techniques.
11. Experience managing a development workshop.
12. Proficient in the use of 3D CAD software. Preferably SolidWorks
13. Experience producing components in accordance to GD&T with drawings produced to BS8888/ISO 128.
14. Part inspection and measurement techniques
15. Physical assembly and testing of designs
16. Awareness of Health and safety practices and creation of risk assessments.
17. Knowledge of mass production processes such as injection moulding and die-casting.
18. A suitable qualification in Mechanical Engineering such as HND or BSc/BEng
19. Excellent collaboration and communication skills.
20. Strong time management and organizational skills.
21. Willing to work with the team on-site 5 days a week.
22. Fluent in English, both verbal and written.
This position requires access to export-controlled information or items (i.e. regulated technology or technical data per ITAR/EAR US regulations). Applicants must be eligible to apply for and obtain the appropriate export control license from the U.S. Departments of State or Commerce.
