The Vacancy
We have an exciting opportunity in the Children's Centre for a Family Support Practitioner to join us on a permanent basis.
As a Family Support Practitioner, you will encourage parents of children under five to be involved in their learning, growth, and well-being, with an emphasis on the community's most vulnerable families. You will engage with all parents and carers, both face to face and digitally, including soon-to-be and young parents, while gaining a solid awareness of the local community's demographics and the networks, services, facilities, and support systems that are available to families in the area.
You will be working with a friendly team of family support workers supporting families in the Stevenage and North Hertfordshire area.
The Role:
1. Promote the engagement of parents of under 5s in their children’s learning, development and wellbeing, with particular focus on the more vulnerable families in the community.
2. Contribute to targeted information, support and advice to families identified by the centre and partner agencies such as Health and Social Care. This work will include one-to-one work, home visiting and group work as appropriate to meet the needs of the families.
3. Participate in the Early Help Assessment (EHA) process, including attendance at multi-agency professional’s meetings, supporting the engagement of families in greatest need in order to improve outcomes for children under 5.
4. Provide direct support to a case load of families through a structured programme of interventions such as Parent’s as First Teachers (PAFT), Triple P and the Nurture programme.
5. Work towards and achieve the agreed Key Performance Indicators and performance objectives and ensure a high level of service is provided at all times.
Requirements:
1. You will be required to travel across Stevenage and North Herts, so holding a driving licence and having business insurance is an essential part of the role.
2. Level 3 or equivalent in health, social care or early years or relevant experience or qualification.
3. Level 4 Working with Parents with Complex Needs (Desirable, or willingness to achieve).

Working Pattern: Monday - Friday, Hours between 8am - 6pm, including some weekends.

The Family Support Service is part of the Hertfordshire Family Centre Service. We offer support, advice and guidance for families from pregnancy through to when a child reaches the end of Primary School (11 years old). Our purpose is to support families to receive seamless integrated services, support and information on key areas relating to family life. This is provided through universal services, where there are emerging needs, along with when more specialist or 1:1 support would be beneficial. Services can be delivered through 1:1, group sessions and activities, accessed within centres, community venues or support workers will visit families within their homes to ensure individual family’s needs are met.
The geographical area we cover includes, Broxbourne, East Herts and Welwyn and Hatfield Districts (the East Quadrant of Hertfordshire). With our purpose being to support children and families to have the best start in life, develop well and thrive.
