What you’ll be doing
Our Level 6 apprenticeship in building services design will prepare you for a career in engineering design, installation, operation and maintenance of building services systems that support the national railway and its infrastructure.
You will be embedded into a Building services team that focuses on office buildings, train stations, depots and track side equipment. We cover a wide array of services such as heating, ventilation, air conditioning, hot & cold water, electrical systems, fire detection & lighting, to name a few.
We work from early feasibility ideas stage all the way through to on-site commissioning and witness testing. This gives a vast appreciation of the design process and how you as a designer affects system and infrastructure with your engineering decisions.
This apprenticeship offers a balance of academic learning and hand on experience which will prepare you for a progressive industry.
Who you are matters
We’re looking for driven go-getters with the ability to communicate with people of all levels. You should be comfortable working as a team, able to adapt to different situations and can approach problems in a creative way.
Apprenticeship candidates will typically have at least three A levels at Grades A*-C including Mathematics and Physical Science or their equivalent or will have completed a Level 3 Apprenticeship as a Building Services Design Technician.
What you’ll get out of it
You’ll gain technical knowledge & experience on system design principles, energy efficiency strategies, and the use of advanced software like CAD and BIM (Building Information Modelling) & various calculation software packages to support your understanding and development.
You will also gain On-the-job training on understanding design, installation, maintenance, and troubleshooting building systems when issues occur.
This qualification will support your Incorporated Engineer status into a professional body such as CIBSE (Chartered Institution of Building Services Engineers).
Successful apprentices will gain a BSc or BEng building services degree which is accredited by the relevant professional engineering institution.
Our apprentices usually go on to secure senior roles within Network Rail. The skills you acquire will support your career development.
