Please visit our website to find out more about us, our values and how we work. The role Evaluation is a key component of UCLPartners’ work to accelerate research and innovation into practice. The Evaluation and Insights function supports health and care teams and innovators across our region to understand the impact of introducing innovations – from new technologies to the redesign of services – on patients and the public, health and care professionals, and the wider system. Our insights platform brings together existing publicly available health and deprivation data for the populations across UCLPartners, by borough and ICS. We are also developing outcome measurement frameworks for each of our health challenges and priority areas to monitor progress and evaluation of our impact. This role will span the Evaluation and Insights function and our Implementation portfolio, to ensure we deliver proven interventions across our strategic priority areas and enable effective knowledge mobilisation from our work. Therefore, this role will report into the Director of Evaluation and Insight but on the day to day basis will work very closely with the Implementation team and Director of Implementation. Key activities Programme managing research studies or evaluations Identifying research methods and developing study design Undertake literature or systematic reviews Rapid evidence syntheses, report writing Data collection and analysis and data modelling and statistical analyses. Key responsibilities Lead and manage the effective delivery of assigned projects and programmes of work across the Evaluation and Insights team’s portfolio, establishing good programme management approaches and governance arrangements Lead on programme and project evaluations to understand their impact on patient experience and outcomes, and additional measures of organisation and system impact Lead on delivery of the Learning Health Systems approach as appropriate for specific programmes Make judgements involving complex facts or data sets that require the analysis, interpretation and comparison of a range of options with a potential to impact programme delivery Provide specialist interpretation and advice on the application of research evidence to stakeholders Oversee the collection, analysis and reporting on data and analysis as part of a range of programmes from across the UCLPartners portfolio as required Ensure appropriate data collection tools are used in all insights and evaluation activity Deliver evidence reviews – including literature reviews, rapid evidence syntheses, and systematic reviews to support our external partners and internal programme teams Provide and present complex and/or sensitive information and analysis to a group of staff, partners or members of the public Oversee evidence reviews by academic teams from across the partnership Design and develop major reports and presentations for internal and external stakeholders for example the results of evidence reviews in relevant forums and media, working with our communication team and collaborating with our partner community across academic, NHS and other stakeholders Oversee the management of UCLP databases and knowledge management records Horizon scan for evaluation commissions relevant to our existing work programme and future strategy Coordinate delivery of high-quality grant applications or responses to invitations to tender Continually seek opportunities to publish findings of evaluations in academic journals (and other media), in presentations at relevant healthcare conferences, and through wider dissemination methods Line management responsibility for a junior member of the team Input into the strategic development of the Evaluation and Insights function in response to the changing demands of a fluid health and care landscape Deputise for the Director of Evaluation and Insights, and Director of Implementation where required in relation to specific projects An understanding of how we support patient and public involvement in our work A commitment to the principles of equity, diversity and inclusion and an understanding of how these principles apply in evaluation work. You Experience in commissioning and/or managing evaluations and research activities that are practice and policy relevant Demonstrable experience of applying specialist analytical methods, including advanced modelling and statistical analyses, to interrogate and analyse health and care data Experience of delivering or supporting a Learning Health Systems approach Experience of survey design and qualitative research methods Understanding of requirements relating to ethics frameworks and approvals, information governance, data protection and confidentiality Experience and understanding of evidence synthesis and systematic review methodology Applied knowledge of data insight, architecture, analysis, research and governance best-practice, methodologies, tools, and frameworks Excellent project management and planning skills across multiple programmes of work Excellent communication skills including delivering high-quality, complex reports and/or analysis to a range of stakeholders Experience in preparing, delivering and facilitating online and in-person meetings to share learning and insights around complex programmes of work Knowledge of and experiencing in presenting data and analytical outputs to a range of audiences in creative ways Understanding of the NHS landscape including the role of regional and national bodies An understanding of the importance of patient, carer and community involvement in the evaluation of health services and health innovations Experience of line management would be advantageous Demonstrable experience of working in a complex environment delivering multiple concurrent and successful projects on time and to an excellent standard Demonstrable commitment to equity, diversity and inclusion Experience of creating project proposals and applications to apply for external funding Experience of dissemination activities such as giving presentations, writing reports and blogs Ability to think and plan strategically, tactically, and creatively Ability to work as part of a team and establish and maintain good internal and external working relationships Ability to work with and through others Advanced skills in Microsoft programmes and experience of using statistical packages for data analysis (e.g. R, Stata, Python) would be advantageous Desirable skills include experience of working as a systematic reviewer and undertaking meta-analyses in the field of applied health research; evidence of successful grant applications and publishing in academic journals. Terms and Conditions Job details The Senior Evaluation and Insights Manager will report to the Director of Evaluation and Insights. The role is a full-time one-year fixed term maternity cover position, with possibility of extension, and with a 37.5 hour work week. Secondments will be considered. The remuneration for this post is competitive depending on skills and experience with a salary range of £61,800 to £72,100 per annum. We offer flexible working arrangements.
