Behaviour Support Teaching Assistant – Secondary School in Havant. GSL Education are seeking a patient and resilient Behaviour Support Teaching Assistant (TA) to join a secondary school in Havant. This full-time position involves supporting students with Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) needs, or those who have been removed from classrooms due to challenging behaviour. You will work under the Welfare Team and be on call throughout the school to provide essential support and help students engage with their learning. The role offers a competitive daily pay rate of £83.85 to £93.85, with the potential for a permanent contract after a successful probation period. Role Overview This position requires an individual who is calm, empathetic, and able to maintain a positive approach when working with students facing behavioural challenges. Key Responsibilities: Work under the Welfare Team, providing on-call support to students across the school struggling with SEMH or challenging behaviours. Provide practical and emotional support to students in managing their behaviours and reintegrating into classrooms. Support the students in achieving their learning objectives, helping them to remain calm and focused during difficult moments. Ensure a safe and inclusive learning environment for all students, encouraging positive behaviours and social skills. Work closely with the teaching staff, SENCO, and pastoral teams to implement behaviour management strategies and monitor students’ progress. Track and report on student behaviour and academic progress, providing feedback to teachers and the welfare team. Support the emotional well-being of students, promoting positive coping strategies and resilience. Ideal Candidate: Experience in supporting students with SEMH needs or working in a similar role is desirable. Transferable experience from youth work, SEN settings, or the care sector will be considered. A calm, patient, and resilient approach to working with students who present challenging behaviours. Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to build positive relationships with students, staff, and parents. Ability to work under pressure and remain flexible to meet the needs of individual students. A commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children.
