Main duties of the job
You will participate in both routine and specialised tasks within the Cellular Pathology department, adhering closely to departmental protocols. Your role also includes involvement in departmental research projects, contributing to our commitment to scientific advancement and excellence.
As a registered Biomedical Scientist, you will maintain your professional and technical competencies through mandatory Continuing Professional Development (CPD) in line with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) requirements. Upholding the standards of the Trust, HCPC, and the Institute of Biomedical Science (IBMS) is essential to this role.

Experience
* Developed knowledge of histology and cytology procedures underpinned by theoretical and practical experience (at least 3 years post registration within the discipline)
* Previous experience of laboratory computerisation and PC office applications
* Use of quality management systems and UKAS accreditation
* Experience of immunocytochemistry testing
* Technical problem solving with a range of procedures and equipment
* Experience of preparing diagnostic cytology samples
* Training of staff
Knowledge
* To have a knowledge of quality and clinical audits within a cellular pathology service
* Knowledge of UKAS accreditation and standards
* Practical understanding of health and safety issues including COSHH and fire regulations
* Awareness of current professional issues
Key Skills
* Good interpersonal skills
* Evidence of ongoing CPD
* Ability to maintain prolonged concentration and accuracy
* Ability to train and instruct staff
Education and Qualifications
* Relevant IBMS Specialist Portfolio, IBMS Diploma of Specialist Practice, equivalent level professional qualification (e.g. CPSM/IBMS discipline specific log book, STP, BBTS Specialist Certificate, BISHI Diploma) or a relevant biomedical science related, postgraduate M-level academic qualification (e.g. MSc), or UK NARIC confirmed equivalent and have two years professional experience within the NHS in an appropriate area of biomedical science
* Evidence of ongoing CPD
* Member of the Institute of Biomedical Sciences
* Evidence of training/qualification in other areas related to Laboratory work e.g. NEBOSH, Certificate of Expert Practice
