Communication Support Worker (SEN School)
Location: Oldham
Hours: Monday - Friday, 8:30 AM - 3:30 PM
Salary: £16.11 PH
About the Role:
We are looking for a compassionate and skilled Communication Support Worker to join our team at a Special Educational Needs (SEN) school in Oldham. As a Communication Support Worker, you will provide essential support to students with communication difficulties, helping them access the curriculum, participate in school activities, and develop their communication skills. This is a fantastic opportunity to make a real difference in the lives of students with SEN.
Key Responsibilities:
Provide one-on-one and small group support to students with communication difficulties, including those with speech and language delays, autism spectrum disorders, or other related needs.
Assist students in developing communication strategies, including the use of augmentative and alternative communication (AAC) systems and strategies.
Support students during lessons, helping them understand instructions and express their thoughts and ideas effectively.
Promote the use of appropriate language and communication in social settings and classroom activities.
Assist teachers in adapting lesson plans and materials to meet the communication needs of individual students.
Build positive relationships with students, encouraging their independence and confidence in communication.
Observe and monitor students' progress in communication, providing feedback to teachers and contributing to individualized education plans (IEPs).
Work collaboratively with a multidisciplinary team of teachers, therapists, and support staff to deliver an integrated approach to communication support.Requirements:
Experience supporting individuals with communication difficulties, preferably in an SEN setting (training will be provided).
Knowledge of communication strategies, including the use of AAC devices, sign language, Makaton, or other communication systems.
Patience, empathy, and a genuine passion for helping children with communication challenges.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build rapport with students and staff.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
A commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children.
Previous experience working in a school or education setting is an advantage but not essential.Benefits:
