An exciting opportunity has arisen for a motivated practitioner to join the Epilepsy team with an Adult Community Learning Disability Team. You will work as a practitioner job sharing with an experienced Epilepsy Specialist Nurse, to provide specialist nursing care, epilepsy training and to act as an expert clinical and professional resource to people with Learning Disability and Epilepsy, their families and support networks as well as to the wider LD community team, health, social and third care sector network.
The post-holder will be an expert in Epilepsy and the health needs of people with learning disabilities and will work within an integrated epilepsy service to complement the roles of the consultant medic.
The role will include carrying out specialist clinical duties within a variety of settings and via differing methods to maintain, deliver and continually develop a high quality, clinically effective service. The role is suitable for an experienced registered band 7 Epilepsy support nurse or as a development for a band 6 who is keen to further develop their practice and leadership skills within this specialty to band 7. Developmental process to be discussed at interview.
The role is for 15 hours as a band 7 but there would be some flexibility to increase the hours to 18 hours if the person successful is a band 6 developing to the 7.
Main duties of the job
The post-holder will contribute towards continuity of care of adults with dual diagnosis of learning disabilities and epilepsy in community settings and independent non-medical prescribing, nurse led clinics, transition from children to adult and referral to other disciplines.
The post-holder will provide enhanced health and quality of life outcomes for people with learning disabilities by improving the quality of local services through education and teaching sessions that promote understanding of people with learning disability and epilepsy using advanced nursing practice.
