About us The Royal Buckinghamshire Hospital was established in Aylesbury in 1832. and has provided services and treatments to thousands of people from across the region. The ownership of the hospital was transferred to our new management team in January 2023. By joining our existing portfolio, the hospital is now run as a professionally and provides clinical care to both private, insured and NHS patients, with a strong ethos on caring for our staff. The clinical outcomes of the hospital are of the highest standards. The latest CQC report rated our hospital standards as 'good' across all parameters. Extensive rejuvenation of the estate and updating of the clinical facilities has already started. Phase one of the projects included just completed included complete refurbishment of the outpatient area and reception, wards, staff facilities and residential accommodation. Phase 2 includes construction and set up of a comprehensive radiology service including CT and MRI, construction of operating theatre and endoscopy suites. The person & scope To work within the therapy department to provide occupational therapy assessment and rehabilitation to Patients with neuro-disability on an individual and group basis according to the agreed goals and objectives of Patients Contribute to multi-disciplinary working across the Hospital and to work collaboratively with colleagues, nursing staff and other departments in the Hospital in the pursuit of providing an outstanding service and experience for Patients, and to ensure effective communication with other members of the team, Patients and relatives. Skills & Experience Excellent listening skills Excellent communication skills with all levels of personnel Working as part of a busy team Compassion with professionalism Complete understanding of confidentiality Understanding boundary setting and maintaining relationships within them Problem solving Duties To independently manage a designated caseload of clients with complex needs in spinal cord injuries and neurological conditions. To complete specialist assessments of clients to address their occupational performance & skill deficit using specialist standardised and non-standardised assessment tools. To work with clients, their carers/relatives to identify OT goals as part of the overall care plan and participate in joint goal setting and rehabilitation planning with other team members. To plan and carry out regular goal review with the patient/family/carers to discuss progress and plan future goals. To plan and implement client centred individual and/or group interventions, enabling the clients in areas of self-maintenance, productivity & leisure, using graded activity to achieve therapeutic goals. To work as part of the multi / interdisciplinary team providing specialist rehabilitation. To conduct and develop rehabilitation groups, working with other members of the multi or interdisciplinary team. To monitor, evaluate and modify treatment in order to measure progress and ensure effectiveness of intervention and to ensure a high standard of evidence based clinical and professional practice is maintained and developed and intervention progresses to a satisfactory closure. To provide occupational therapy intervention at The Royal Buckinghamshire Hospital, the patients home or other community setting. To carry out home visits in liaison with other health and social care professionals to identify equipment and care needs required for discharge as appropriate. To provide clinical specialist advice/support to the occupational therapy team and other team members as appropriate in Spinal Cord Injury management. To lead and co-ordinate case conferences and family meetings. To act as a key worker for designated patients. To recommend and/or arrange for the provision, delivery and fit of standard specialist disability equipment frequently entailing manual effort and undertaking risk assessment for safe fitting and use. To participate in clinical meetings which review individual patients progress. To provide help and advice to patients, their families, and other carers, teaching and demonstrating relevant treatment techniques, moving, and handling and use of equipment to optimise patients functional ability and independence.
