Join Our Team and Make a Difference! (Thame, Oxfordshire)
Are you passionate about making a real difference in people’s lives? Do you share our values of honesty, respect, fun, compassion, and kindness? We are looking for dedicated and compassionate Support Workers to join our team in Thame, Oxfordshire, providing essential support to people with learning disabilities and/or autism.
About Us:
We are a charity dedicated to supporting people with learning disabilities and/or autism, helping them lead fulfilling lives within their communities. We recruit people who share our values and believe that every person is unique. We don't just see people we support as "individuals"; we see them as people with hopes, dreams, and goals just like everyone else.
The Role:
As a Support Worker, you will play an essential role in supporting people in our care, providing person-centred support that respects each person’s uniqueness. You will be helping them to live their lives as independently as possible, while supporting them in their daily activities, socialising, learning new skills, and accessing the community.
One person you will support is Geoffrey, a wonderful person who is at the beginning of their transition from male to female. Your role will include:
1. Accepting Geoffrey for who they are and supporting them throughout their transition.
2. Supporting Geoffrey in feeling comfortable with their feelings and emotions, providing a safe and accepting environment.
3. Encouraging Geoffrey’s social inclusion by helping them get out into the community and connect with others who share similar interests.
4. Supporting Geoffrey with life skills both at home and in the community, such as shopping, cooking, and personal care.
5. Respecting Geoffrey’s autonomy, including understanding that they may cancel support on the day if needed.
Timings and Days:
1. Regular Shift Times: 11am to 4pm on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday.
2. On Mondays, every other week will require a later start of 1pm to 5.30 pm due to a social group Geoffrey attends and pick up again at 7.15 pm and take home. Occasionally, later starts and ends may be needed depending on how Geoffrey is coping with their mental health and whether they need support to attend groups.
3. You will potentially cover regular shifts and at least one day a week, as well as providing full-week coverage when main staff are on leave.
Why Relief Hours Work for You:
1. Flexibility to choose when you work, ensuring it fits your lifestyle.
2. Receive the same professional training as permanent staff.
3. A role designed around your convenience, while providing important support to those in need.
4. Over 95% of our staff transition to permanent roles, and we will guide you every step of the way.
5. Job security and career development opportunities.
What’s In It for You:
1. Gain valuable experience and training in social care.
2. Be part of a supportive, inclusive, and passionate team.
3. Make a lasting impact on the lives of the people you support, including Geoffrey and others with unique and inspiring stories.
If you’re someone who can bring your passion and care to our team, and would like to make a meaningful difference to people’s lives, we’d love to hear from you!
About You:
We are looking for individuals who have:
1. A good knowledge or training in Autism and mental health.
2. A UK manual driving licence (essential for supporting people to access the community).
3. Person-centred values: You’ll put the person at the heart of everything you do, respecting their choices and preferences.
4. Compassion and kindness: You will support people to lead fulfilling lives, while being a reliable and empathetic friend and mentor.
