Children’s Services – Safeguarding and Family Support

Role Overview
Islington’s Children’s Social Care is dedicated to helping vulnerable children, young people, and their families achieve meaningful and sustainable change in their lives. We are transforming our approach by utilizing Motivational Social Work (MSW), rooted in Motivational Interviewing (MI) principles, to collaborate purposefully with service users in reaching their goals.
The Social Work Coordinator (SWC) is a para-professional who provides essential administrative support to enhance frontline practice. This role is crucial in enabling child and family social workers to focus on their primary responsibilities of keeping children safe. The SWC is often the first point of contact for staff, service users, and other professionals and is responsible for organizing and preparing meetings and managing team schedules.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
* Child Welfare Advocacy: Promote and safeguard the welfare of children, young people, and vulnerable adults, including undertaking regular Child Protection training relevant to the role.
* Administrative System Management: Create, maintain, and enhance administrative systems to ensure the delivery of high-quality services to children and families.
* Information Management: Work proactively to ensure timely and accurate information about activities and performance is collated and maintained, adhering to deadlines and high accuracy standards.
* Relationship Building: Develop and maintain strong working relationships with teams within Children’s Social Care, other Council departments, and clients.
* Sensitive Communication: Handle inquiries and telephone messages with sensitivity, accurately logging calls and notifying social work staff or managers of urgent issues.
* Technology Utilization: Use appropriate databases, Microsoft Office, and other ICT systems to produce reports, spreadsheets, and documents as required, providing assistance to others in using technology.
* Standardized Communication: Produce standard written or electronic responses to inquiries from family members or professionals within tight deadlines.
* Project Support: Assist with support tasks on various projects as needed.
* Diary Management: Provide effective diary management for social workers to coordinate meetings, visits, and other engagements.
* Additional Duties: Undertake other responsibilities that align with the grade of the position.

* Execute duties efficiently and effectively to achieve service outcomes and personal appraisal targets set by the line manager.
* Participate in training, meetings, supervision, and seminars to enhance communication and professional development.

* Ensure compliance with the Data Protection Act and relevant legislation in all duties.

Job Types: Full-time, Temp to perm
Contract length: 3 months
Pay: £20.59-£21.00 per hour
