We are looking for a Health Care Assistant with a passion for palliative care to work as part of our multidisciplinary team based in Winsford. A vacancy has arisen on Day Hospice at St Lukes (Cheshire) Hospice. If you want the time to give compassionate patient-centred care as part of a small multidisciplinary team, please apply.
Through guidance from qualified staff, you will assist patients with all aspects of daily living, acknowledging their personal preferences, rights & choices, and promoting privacy, dignity, and respect for personal values and identity.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Be aware of the communication needs of patients & significant others and use a range of effective interpersonal skills to aid communication.
2. Become aware of the recognised grief reactions to terminal illness in patients and carers in order to offer care & support.
3. Recognise changes in patients, both physical and emotional, and report them to qualified staff.
4. Following appropriate training, safely undertake the following duties under guidance and supervision of a qualified nurse or therapist:
1. Assist in the safe delivery of medications
2. Catheter care
3. Gastrostomy feeds and administration of feeds via the gastrostomy tube
4. Temperature observation during blood transfusions
5. Simple massage of patients
6. Participate in essential ward cleaning duties.
5. Be supportive to volunteers, students, and staff on duty in the Hospice.
6. Ensure confidentiality in all aspects of patient care, including the safe storage of information.
7. Have a welcoming approach to patients and visitors, and assist in ensuring a safe and comfortable environment.
8. Assist in the monitoring and maintenance of a healthy, safe, and secure working environment ensuring compliance with legal and regulatory requirements for patients, visitors, and self.
