If so, we want to hear from you The Role: We are seeking a dedicated and strategic Special Educational Needs Coordinator (SENCO) to lead and develop our SEN provision in our secondary school in Blackpool, UK. As SENCO, you will be a key member of the leadership team, responsible for ensuring high-quality support and inclusive practices for students with a wide range of special educational needs and disabilities (SEND). Key Responsibilities: Lead and manage the school's SEN department, including line managing SEN staff and deploying resources effectively. Oversee the identification, assessment, and provision for students with SEND in accordance with the SEND Code of Practice (UK). Develop, implement, and review the school's SEN policy and procedures, ensuring they are aligned with current legislation and best practice in the UK. Coordinate the development, implementation, and monitoring of Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs) and Individual Education Plans (IEPs). Work collaboratively with teachers, teaching assistants, pastoral staff, and external agencies to ensure a coordinated and effective approach to supporting students with SEND. Provide advice, support, and training to staff on inclusive teaching practices and meeting the needs of students with SEND. Liaise effectively with parents/carers of students with SEND, fostering strong partnerships and open communication. Monitor and evaluate the impact of SEN provision on student outcomes. Manage the SEN budget effectively, ensuring resources are allocated appropriately. Keep up-to-date with current research and best practice in the field of special educational needs. About You: Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) and ideally hold the National Award for SEN Coordination (NASENCo) or be working towards it. Significant experience working with students with a wide range of special educational needs in a secondary school setting in the UK. A thorough understanding of the SEND Code of Practice (UK) and related legislation. Strong assessment and analytical skills to identify and meet the diverse needs of students. Ability to develop and implement effective SEN policies and procedures. Experience of working with EHCPs and IEPs. A commitment to inclusive education and raising the achievement of students with SEND. Desirable: Experience of managing a SEN budget effectively. Knowledge of local authority SEND procedures and resources in the Blackpool area. Experience of delivering training to staff on SEN-related topics.
