Role: Head of Midwifery and Women’s Services Location: The Portland Hospital, Great Portland Street, London Salary: Competitive dependent on experience & skills Benefits (pension, health cover, flexible benefits and excellent career development) As The Head of Midwifery and Women’s Services you will provide professional leadership to the Maternity Team, Gynaecology and Neonatal Nursing Teams and ensure the consistent delivery of high quality, evidence - based care to all patients ensuring the provision of competent and culturally sensitive services to the patients and their families. The Head of Midwifery and Women’s Services will oversee and monitor the patient care provision of the assigned Midwifery and Nursing Departments. All professional activities will be performed in collaboration with other members of the multidisciplinary team. The maternity unit currently has 16 inpatient beds as well as a 5 bedded delivery suite with a birthing pool, an emergency maternity theatre and HDU facilities. Outpatients provide a maternity day assessment, ultrasound scanning and a wide range of birth preparation classes. There are also 6 cots within the neonatal unit which provides Level 2 neonatal care to new-borns. Skills & Experience Registered Midwife with valid NMC registration Master’s degree in Midwifery or health related subject Leadership/ management qualification Previous experience with managing budgets Experience of managing work force planning Ability to work effectively with challenging situations, including challenging poor practice and dealing with conflict Able to deliver training to a range of staff Leadership Has overall responsibility for the management of Midwifery and Women’s Services, acting as a positive role model at all times Accountable for patients and their families receiving timely, patient centred, safe, effective care Represents Midwifery and Women’s Services to relevant outside organisations, institutions and individuals Managing Resources The post holder has delegated responsibility for the value of all of the department budgets within Midwifery and Women’s Services and optimises the resources to ensure revenue-generating targets and EBITDA are met. Participates in the formulation of the Midwifery and Women’s Services departments budgets in accordance with hospital budgeting processes. Management of People Has oversight and control of the development, ongoing improvement and implementation of safe, efficient and effective working practices, supporting and guiding the Midwifery and Nursing teams in delivering the outcomes. Ensures own knowledge and skills (clinical and management) are maintained. Clinical Governance, Quality and Risk Work in collaboration with the Governance Team to ensure that Maternity and Women’s Services contribute to the Clinical Governance strategy by standard setting, implementing clinical and medical audit programmes and developing action plans as required for deficit management.
