Qualification:
* Level 3 or above
* A minimum of two years of experience as a Deputy Manager or Room Leader
Setting:
Family-run for over 30 years, our three Young Sussex Nurseries provide a stimulating and nurturing place for children to learn, develop and have fun.
We recognise that happy, skilled staff are fundamental to excellent care, so we do all we can to support, train and retain our staff. Young Sussex provides a professional, caring and friendly environment with lots of opportunities for personal growth.
Personal qualities:
Applicants must have highly effective communication and managerial skills and be able to work autonomously and competently to meet targets. You must have experience working in a leadership role and have in-depth knowledge and understanding of Ofsted requirements and EYFS principles and practices. Good knowledge of child protection, Health & Safety issues and all current legislation is essential.
Applicants should naturally be calm, personable, confident and helpful with all matters regarding the team and the running of the setting.
Duties:
The Deputy Manager role is initially advertised as a part-time role (3 days per week) with potential to increase to full time when the needs of the nursery allow. If you wish a Full Time role with us, 3 days will be as Deputy Manager and 2 days as Room Based.
The Deputy Manager will be responsible for the day-to-day operation of the nursery, alongside the Nursery Manager and have full responsibility in their absence. Duties include admissions, staff development, recruitment, HR, funding administration and invoicing. We strive to review and reflect on the whole nursery provision on an ongoing basis (this includes staff performance, practice, resources, environment, parent partnerships etc.). The Deputy Manager will liaise with professional agencies when required and have responsibility for the nursery premises and upholding Health and Safety Standards.
Here are some of the reasons why we believe Young Sussex is a great place to be:
* Family-run business with staff well-being as a top priority
* Outstanding gradings in our most recent Ofsted Inspections
* Many long-standing staff with over 130 years of experience at Young Sussex, within the Management team alone, enabling a secure and knowledgeable environment
* Competitive salary reviewed annually
* Career progression is encouraged with many opportunities for growth across our three nurseries
* In-house and external training (including levels 3, 4, and 5 in childcare as well as paediatric first aid, child protection, and manual handling training)
* Christmas + Birthday gift voucher
* Team building including summer outing + staff Christmas party
* Long service bonuses (£200 to £800 given every 2 years)
* Increased holiday based on length of service (up to 33 days)
* Flexible nursery care for your child including half price rates
* Refer a friend scheme (£200 paid for each friend employed)
* 360 degree feedback for reviews and appraisals
Excellent rates of pay:
Our pay rates are amongst the highest in the area and salaries are reviewed annually. Clear pay scales ensure fairness and equality for all staff and provide a structure for career development. We operate a competency and skills-based pay scheme, incentivising staff by financially rewarding them for enhancing their level of qualification and training.
We also offer loyalty bonuses every two years and up to 33 days of holiday (based on length of service). Flexible nursery care is available at a reduced rate. Our ‘refer a friend’ scheme financially rewards employees who recommend great candidates to join us. Everyone’s contribution is recognised with birthday and Christmas gift vouchers.
Career progression:
Young Sussex aims to promote from within, giving our staff lots of opportunities for career progression or new responsibilities across the three nurseries. Support is provided from the start, with a tailor-made induction for your role, one, three- and six-month reviews, and a 360-degree appraisal scheme, encouraging feedback from your peers and your line manager annually.
Training:
We support any aspirations staff have for furthering their qualifications, whether this be L3, 4 or 5 as well as degree qualifications.
We aim for all staff to hold a Paediatric First Aid certificate, which is regularly updated, along with training in Child Protection, Health & Safety, Food Hygiene and Manual Handling. We hold ‘in-house’ training sessions led by senior staff or outside trainers, and staff regularly attend external training courses to enhance their professional development.
Social events:
We value our employees’ contributions and opinions and Young Sussex is a friendly, sociable place to work. Team building, summer outings and evenings out are regularly organised by staff and at the end of the year, we all get together for our Young Sussex Christmas Party to celebrate.
Safeguarding statement:
Young Sussex is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of young children and people and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment.
