Psychological Wellbeing Practitioner, 12 month fixed term contract
An opportunity exists for highly motivated and enthusiastic, qualified NHS Talking Therapies compliant psychological wellbeing practitioners (PWPs) who share our passion for great patient care and making a difference, to apply for roles within our busy NHS Talking Therapies service based in NE Essex.
The post holders will work alongside a large team that includes other psychological wellbeing practitioners, cognitive behavioural therapists, primary care counsellors/therapists who provide a range of NICE approved therapeutic interventions for depression and anxiety disorders. This is a demanding but well supported position. We are particularly keen to hear from applicants who have a commitment to working in the local region, from those with diverse backgrounds and from people who bring lived experience relevant to mental health work.
The successful applicants will be skilled and experienced in dealing with assessment and treatment provision for clients requiring Step 2 interventions, highly motivated with the ability to organise and prioritise their own workload and have completed an approved NHS Talking Therapies compliant training.
Main duties of the job
Postholders will:
* Accept referrals via agreed protocols within the service.
* Assess and support people with a common mental health problem in the self-management of their recovery.
* Undertake patient-centred interviews which identify areas where the person wishes to see change and or recovery and makes an accurate assessment of risk to self and others.
* Provide a range of information and support for evidence-based high volume low-intensity psychological treatments. This may include guided self-help, computerised CBT, and information about pharmacological treatments. This work may be face to face, telephone or via other media.
Working for our organisation
Therapy For You is a NHS Talking Therapies primary care therapy service based in SE and NE Essex working from our own premises, GP surgeries and community settings. Since 2009 we have been delivering a range of services including self-help psycho-educational courses, therapy groups, online/digital therapeutic services and individual therapies including cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT), Dynamic Interpersonal Therapy (DIT), Interpersonal Therapy (IPT) and Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing (EMDR) to our local communities. The service works with +16 years/adults presenting with mild, moderate and severe anxiety and depression.
The successful applicants will be skilled and experienced in dealing with assessment and treatment provision for clients requiring Step 2 interventions, highly motivated with the ability to organise and prioritise their own workload and have completed an approved NHS Talking Therapies compliant training.
We are committed to providing an out of hours service to the community and this involves working some evenings or Saturdays, typically 6-9pm or 9am-1pm respectively. Further information available from both job description and person specification.
Detailed job description and main responsibilities
The post-holder will:
* Hold an NHS Talking Therapies compliant Psychological Wellbeing Practitioner qualification from a training programme that is accredited by the British Psychological Society.
* Offer evidence-based practice in facilitated self-help, computerised CBT and stress management groups.
* Work within the NHS Talking Therapies service providing high volume low intensity interventions which will be a range of cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) based self-management interventions to clients with mild to moderate anxiety and depression.
* Adhere to an agreed activity contract relating to the number of client contacts offered, and clinical sessions carried out per week in order to minimise waiting times and ensure treatment delivery remains accessible and convenient.
* Attend multi-disciplinary meetings relating to referrals or clients in treatment, where appropriate.
Person specification
Qualifications
* NHS Talking Therapies Psychological Wellbeing Practitioner qualification from a training programme that is accredited by the British Psychological Society.
* Qualification in NHS Talking Therapies supervision or experience in delivering professional clinical supervision.
* Professional Registration with either the BPS or BABCP.
Experience
* Consolidated and reflective supervised post-qualifying experience, preferably in NHS setting.
* Ability to demonstrate a range of post-qualifying experiences in offering and delivering the range of evidence-based NHS Talking Therapies low intensity interventions such as computerised CBT and guided self-help and group psycho-education.
* Experience of co-working with other health professionals in a primary care setting.
* Experience of working within the NHS Talking Therapies culture.
Skills
* Ability to undertake comprehensive clinical risk assessments.
* The capacity to adapt core psychological approaches to the primary care culture, incorporating a range of skills to meet a broad spectrum of presenting issues which will ensure that people with mental and physical health problems receive joined-up health care.
* Fluent in languages other than English.
Knowledge
* An understanding of the context of NHS Talking Therapies stepped care and the move towards integrating mental and physical health across the healthcare system.
* Knowledge of different common mental health problems.
* Knowledge of NHS policies, procedures and guidelines.
* Evidence of further training in psychological interventions/therapy.
