About the Role
Derby Road Practice is looking for a healthcare assistant (HCA) to join the practice in this vital patient-facing role with both clinical and administrative responsibilities. The role is offered on a full or part-time basis.
Main duties of the role:
* Carry out base-line observations such as pulse, oximetry, temperature, blood pressure and blood glucose levels, recording findings accurately.
* Wound care, venepuncture, phlebotomy checks and administering of medicines and vaccines.
* Ensure that all clinical rooms are adequately stocked and prepared for each session.
* Update patient health records.
* Ensure that medical supplies are in stock.
* Act as a chaperone where required.
* Assist GP during the performance of minor operations.
* Communicate with patients, relatives, and carers including providing valuable health promotion and education.
* New patient health checks.
The role will offer you the opportunity to build on your experience, skills and competence, requiring you to work effectively within a multidisciplinary healthcare team.
About the Candidate
The healthcare assistant role within general practice can be very different to the role within other settings and as such we are only looking for applications from those with previous primary care experience.
All applicants should have the following skills and qualifications:
Qualifications and experience - these are a requirement to be considered for the role:
* Successful completion of the Care Certificate, or willingness to undertake, as indicated by the CQC.
* Level 3 Diploma in Health and Social Care, or equivalent.
Essential knowledge, skills and experience:
* Excellent patient-facing communication and interpersonal skills.
* Confidential manner with a compassionate and respectful approach, placing a high value on the dignity of patients, relatives, carers and colleagues.
* Ability to work independently, determining own workload priorities, as well as working as part of a multi-disciplinary team.
* Strong organisational and time management skills.
Desirable:
* Experience of working in primary care ideally in a GP practice.
