The Green Spaces and Street Scene Service is responsible for maintaining the beautiful borough of Calderdale. This includes looking after our parks and open spaces, play areas, highways, countryside & forestry, and ensuring that the streets are kept clear of litter, public litter bins are emptied, and fly tipping is removed. Calderdale Council is seeking dedicated Arboriculture Technicians (Tree Inspector) to join our team, focusing on the inspection and assessment of council-owned trees across parks, woodlands, and streets. You will play a crucial role in ensuring the safety and health of our tree stock, assessing conditions, identifying risks, and recommending appropriate actions. Working in accordance with best practices and arboricultural standards, you will be responsible for keeping our public spaces safe and green. As part of your role, you will conduct regular inspections to determine the condition of trees and recommend any necessary works to maintain safety and compliance. You will also be responsible for updating and maintaining a comprehensive database of council-owned trees and assisting in the preparation of management plans. This role involves investigating and responding to issues raised by the public or other council services regarding dangerous or unhealthy trees, ensuring swift action is taken to mitigate any risks. In addition to your inspection duties, you will work closely with various stakeholders, including council departments and private landowners, to provide advice and guidance on tree-related issues. You will also assist with enforcement actions related to privately owned trees when they pose a risk to public safety. The role will require proactive communication with contractors to ensure that necessary remedial work is carried out promptly and in accordance with council standards. This is a physically demanding position that will require working outdoors in all weather conditions, with duties involving climbing, lifting, and walking across varied terrain. You will need a full UK driving licence as the role requires travel between sites. Some out-of-hours work will also be required to handle emergency situations.
