We are seeking a knowledgeable, driven and forward-thinking Specialist Biomedical Scientist in Microbiology to join our dedicated and supportive team in the Pathology Department at Nobles Hospital on the beautiful Isle of Man Consideration will also be given to a New Registrant or Trainee Biomedical Scientist. If you would like to achieve a fantastic work-life balance with a professionally satisfying job, then this could be the perfect role for you Main duties of the job This is an interesting and varied role based in a district general hospital laboratory setting, however we also perform a range of specialist investigations due to our Island location. Our department is equipped with Vitek 2, Vitek MS and VIDAS 3 systems, along with Hologic Panther, Cepheid and BioFire FilmArray molecular testing. We process approximately 75,000 samples per annum. The Microbiology Department is divided into Routine Diagnostic Microbiology, Immunoserology, Molecular testing, CL3, Media production and Genitourinary Medicine sections and staff are rotated through all areas of the department. As a Band 5 Biomedical Scientist you will be responsible for the diagnosis of infection, infestation and disease processes by the application of microbiological, serological and molecular technology. This is achieved using the most up-to-date scientific methods in conjunction with traditional methods of culture, microscopy and antigen/antibody-complex diagnosis. Specialist Biomedical Scientists will also be required to provide advice to clinicians relating to suitability of specimens and requested tests, and will have the opportunity to participate in the voluntary multidisciplinary on call rota, following suitable training and assessment, for which extra remuneration will apply and there is also a seven-day working rota system for weekend working which attracts a pay enhancement.
