Oak Ward is seeking an experienced Band 6 Charge Nurse who has the skills and knowledge of working in acute mental health wards. We will consider applications from Band 5s who are ready for a promotion!
Oak Ward is a psychiatric intensive care unit (PICU) with a multi-disciplinary team including psychologists, occupational therapy, recreational workers, nursing, and medical teams.

Main Duties of the Job
The successful candidate will:
* Provide mental health support and care to service users experiencing a mental health crisis.
* Act as the charge nurse for the unit.
* Be responsible for a designated group of patients, including assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of care.
* Lead shifts on the ward and provide clinical supervision to junior staff members.
* Communicate effectively and maintain patient confidentiality.
* Participate in ward rounds, handovers, and meetings related to patient care.

Job Responsibilities
You will manage the clinical aspects of being a Band 6 Charge Nurse, actively participating in the assessment, treatment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of care for service users in collaboration with inpatient multi-disciplinary services.
You will maintain effective communication with colleagues and carers regarding service users' care and treatment.
You will identify individuals' care needs and collaborate with other teams and professionals to plan, implement, and evaluate care plans and risk assessments.
Participate in ward rounds, prepare reports as required, and act as deputy manager to junior staff providing leadership and support.
Person Specification
Qualifications
* RMN/RLDN or Dip/BSc (Hons) in Mental Health/Learning Disability Nursing with relevant qualifications.
Experience
* Post-registration experience at Band 5.
* Evidence of continuing professional development.
* Experience of working in other clinical settings.
Job-Related Aptitude and Skills
* Ability to communicate effectively within a multi-professional team.
* Confidence to work autonomously and make decisions in complex situations.
* Ability to provide and receive complex, sensitive, or contentious information.
* Experience of risk assessment and management.
* Understanding of the legal framework MHA, MCA, DoL, safeguarding, and social factors involved in care.
* Specific clinical skills applicable, e.g., brief therapy, cognitive therapy, and anxiety management.

Salary: £37,338 to £44,962 per annum, pro rata + 5% of basic salary (max £2,011 per annum)
