The salary for this permanent Lead Occupational Therapist job is £43,742 - £50,952 per annum.
Main Duties:
* Ensure personal and service practices align with local and national standards, including adherence to COT Standards for Practice, the Code of Ethics, and Professional Conduct, while meeting clinical governance requirements.
* Collaborate with other Occupational Therapy Service Leads, managing responsibilities that may span across various specialties.
* Lead the development, implementation, and review of local policies and procedures to ensure the delivery of high-quality, evidence-based occupational therapy services.
* Serve as a key resource and expert in Occupational Therapy, providing knowledge and guidance to colleagues, relatives, and professionals across the site.
* Manage and coordinate the daily delivery of occupational therapy services, ensuring efficient and effective service provision.
* Oversee and conduct regular clinical audits and research to inform service improvement, including evaluating and reporting on the effectiveness of occupational therapy using reliable clinical outcome measures.
* Lead the Occupational Therapy (OT) team, including overseeing clinical supervision through a structured approach where senior staff supervise less experienced members.
* Promote and maintain high standards of expertise within the OT department through active participation in clinical work and ensuring these standards are upheld by all staff.
* Identify and address professional and operational issues at a strategic level, working with the Therapy Manager to develop and implement appropriate actions, including proposals for additional funding for service development.
* Act as a specialist resource in Occupational Therapy, offering expert advice and support to the OT team, students, multidisciplinary team members, and external professionals.
* Conduct specialist clinical assessments as required, such as Sensory assessments, for the relevant service lines.
* Participate in site-wide quality improvement initiatives, including conducting investigations and ensuring compliance with Quality Assurance objectives.
* Lead the OT team, ensuring all members practice effectively within agreed local and national standards and competency frameworks.
* Manage the allocation and prioritization of workloads within the OT team, ensuring resources are efficiently matched to client needs and delegating tasks appropriately based on staff grade and competency.
* Implement changes in work structure and/or patterns within the OT team, using advanced communication and change management techniques to ensure smooth transitions.
Requirements of the Lead Occupational Therapist:
* Degree or equivalent in Occupational Therapy
* Extensive post-qualification experience with a strong background in acute sector clinical occupational therapy.
* Proven leadership skills with a track record of leading teams and driving change effectively.
* Strong understanding of current national and local healthcare issues.
* Experience in supervising and mentoring both undergraduate and postgraduate staff.
* Significant experience in inpatient settings, particularly in leading inpatient therapy teams.
