We are seeking to recruit a clinical psychologist with enthusiasm for, and experience of, working psychologically with people who have had a stroke. The post is a dedicated one-day a week, direct and indirect clinical position, to support the development of psychological work within the inpatient stroke ward. An ability to work independently and with self-motivation is essential.
You will be working with psychologically and neuropsychologically affected people who have experienced a recent stroke. You will work directly with patients to assess, formulate psychological needs, and offer psychological interventions as appropriate. You will also work indirectly with colleagues, offering supervision, consultation, and training in relation to the psychological aspects of stroke. You will be located in an inpatient setting and will need to have an ability to be flexible and to manage time efficiently.
We aim to attract and retain a diverse, talented, and committed workforce, who are caring and compassionate, and therefore able to meet the demands of the modern NHS now and in the future. In return, we can offer a dynamic working environment in which to build a career.
You will be part of our thriving team of seven qualified psychologists/psychological therapists and assistant psychologists, who work into the wider Older People’s Mental Health Service in Gateshead (based at Bensham Hospital). There is a Gateshead-wide Mental Health Service for older people, including two older adult inpatient wards (functional and organic), a Memory Hub, an Early Onset Dementia team, and a community mental health team for older people.
This one-day post is a clinical post working directly and indirectly into the acute hospital stroke ward, offering neuropsychological and psychological assessment, formulation and intervention, MDT consultation and training, and developing the role of psychology within inpatient stroke services in Gateshead. You will be responsible for maintaining records and audits of the service provision and recommending service developments to improve psychological care in inpatient stroke services.
